My friend has a border collie and he is a really good boy, really smart too. One thing that was really weird was that after a few years of knowing and petting him he started avoiding me like the plague. We didn't know why, we thought maybe it was that I had the odor of my own dog in my clothes or sth (I had a male belgian shepherd at the time and he is really large in size). Turns out since I had my nose clogged a lot when I was around him the sound of me blowing my nose made his ears hurt, so it seems border collies are really sensitive to noise.

Wauf is full of zoos. Probably a quarter or more of posters are one. My evidence comes from well established threads of almost any kind (as long as the animals in question are attractive to them) with 40-80 IPs suddenly shifting topics from completely benign conversation to either cryptozoo dogwhistling or outright admission and storytelling without the IP counter changing. I've observed it happening hundreds of times, and no it's not some ridiculous conspiracy. It's just a couple anons realizing the other is a zoo and getting excited about it, then often several more will join in. I bet there are still more who never post about it because they either don't want to ruin a thread with coomerism or they don't want to get banned.
But yeah the animal section on Wauf is full of zoos. It shouldn't be a surprise, and b***hing about it too much will just get you trolled on.

This mostly happens in horse, bird, and big cat threads. Dog threads are extremely hostile to you fricks. Everyone who actually owns a dog goes on record saying all of you should be killed.

So you're saying a quarter or more of the posters are in /horse/ and the bird/big cat threads.

This is a dog thread and anons are no more hostile than usual. A few will say edgy shit like you're doing and that's it. Sometimes a moral argument will happen where antis eventually fall back on "I don't like it, so it's bad", but it's always just a few people getting heated. Everyone else doesn't care.
Dog threads are more commonly made vicious by consolewar dog/cat preference homosexualry.

There’s unironically some catgay schizo who samegayged essays about raping border collie for so long that he started attracting unironic animal rapists who started recruiting other animal rapists to come here

Only oldgays remember. Real dog owners HATE zoophiles, violently, so /dog/ went from very active to totally dead. Everyone left there is an animal rapist or very desperate for attention. It used to have 15-20 regular unique posters who actually owned dogs ffs. Not after that dog hating schizlord.

this. its Wauf specific schizophrenia drama. they even have a telegram dedicated to raiding /dog/ and trolling “antizoo” posters into leaving.

            >This lie
It is literally what fricking happened.

The only theory involved is with regards to who lit the fire, the lone schizophrenic catgay, or eevee's owner. That's the other thing, as soon as eevees owner started posting about "ovary sparing spays" the zooposting increased in frequency, and ovary sparing spays are linked to zoophles. Perhaps that weird german gay started it (guess the laws in europe...), and the cat schizo latched on to exploit it for his personal anti-dog agenda and shitposted to enhance and further that drama. The ovary sparing spay gay, prior to that, was posting about how he carried a glock and massive magazine to the dog park, and saying his dog saved his life, rambling about having grenades thrown at him and shooting people. Want to bet on a psychotic break? The catgay schizo was already psychotic and had been trying to push this fantasy land for months at least
            >Catgay schizo narrative:
            >All dogs eat their own shit
            >And then doggays let them lick them in the mouth
            >Dog owners pick up shit with their bare hands
            >All dogs kill toddlers
            >All doggays frick dogs

Whoever started it, a catgay schizo was heavily involved, and it resulted in /dog/ completely dying, going from nearly two dozen unique posters who actually own dogs to 3-5 in any thread, of which 3 are likely zoophiles who are strongly against spaying and neutering. The actual dog owners scattered back to other boards.

Had the schizos not schizzed out, there would be less anti-cat schizo posting, and /dog/ would probably still be alive.

Intelligent, driven, sensitive. Easy to overcorrect accidentally. I like a more resilient dog that isn't going to be traumatised if I accidentally step on it one time because I'm clumsy. I had a dog who would never, ever do a competition heel because I trod on him, but I stepped on his feet a few times when I was trying to train it, not just the once, fair enough. All I asked him for was loose-leash walking in the end.

But a dog that'll make an instant connection between being stood on once during heelwork and decide to never heel again? That would be a pain. I've trod on my current dog a few times, but he's got a sturdy temperament, and doesn't give a shit.

      Anonymous

We had a nice family friend who tried to train our springer spaniel not to jump up by gently trodding on his legs when he did it. His response was to be much more cautious when jumping up at that particular man but you could see the temptation in him to jump up vs the associated potential pain. I think he thought it was accidental. I'd never in my wildest dreams do that, I loved him jumping up at me.

Might be a little less easier to train than border collies because they're so exciteable, so that's why border collies win the intelligence tests but springers are incredibly smart as well they're just so exciteable.

I consider her my best friend, she's with me 24/7. I know people who have them in apartments but they need space to feel good. I have her since a pup and she turns 8 this year. She's very handy when I need to find the kids , she keeps the chickens safe and allerts when people come on the property. I'm a logger and we go to work together. I never trained her but she knows exactly what I want ,when I ask her, seeking the kids, herding the chickens , chase the deer out the garden etc , it's a very nice animal to have but I recommend to have a farm. To give them a nice life. They like space.

Have you done the thing where you order your dog to sit while having a treat in your hand, go and hide it, then go back and give permission to search? When I was a kid, that was one of my favorite games to play with our dog. When he was on the wrong track, I'd gesture vaguely to give him a hint.

    >This is strongly correlated with spaying and neutering. So is epilepsy (but only for this one single breed).

Interesting, my guy isn't neutered but I always thought this breed was just especially susceptible to arthritis. My guy has it pretty bad but in all honesty, the medication I have him on is inexpensive and has worked wonders. Also my vet recommended a medication which was recently approved to be used in Canada called Librela and it supposedly works wonders.

I've had mine for 13 years and I don't live in a rural area, I'm in a major city.

    Pros:
    - Very fricking smart, to the point they practically train themselves.
    - Very cute, they get lots of attention at dog parks if you like chatting with people
    - Rewarding in the sense that you will get as much out of them as you are willing to put in, this means you can teach them cool tricks, you can play with them, run with them, even compete with them or actually utilize them for herding if needed.
    - Loyal af, if you are their leader they will follow you to the end of the earth (same can be said for most dogs that aren't tiny though)
    - Overall I'd say they are a great size, not too small and not too big.
    - They are brave as well, my border collie squared up with a coyote that was way bigger
    - They are also super fun to just play with, frisbee or fetch they love to play and they never get tired, they also are fond of swimming (at least mine is)

    Cons:
    - They have double coat so they shed A LOT, air purifier definitely recommended.
    - Not ideal if you can't be with them for most of the day, they really are not the type of dogs to leave home alone for 8 hours while u work.
    - They require a lot of stimulation and activity, they will always want to play and if you don't provide enough stimulation I imagine they would become destructive and misbehave (like most dogs but this breed is prob the worst for that). My guy is 13 and still wants to play all day.
    - They are practically guaranteed to get arthritis but good news is that there are great medications that really allow them to continue being happy even with arthritis.
    - They are not the most social dog unless you specifically train them to be social with other dogs (my guy is more than happy to sniff a dog and wag his tail but he has never actually played with other dogs)

I def recommend them IF you know what you're getting yourself into, a lot of them end up in shelters sadly. Not the most "beginner friendly" dog imo.

Based! Had a rough collie as a child. Switched to Shetland Sheepdogs after the collie died until my mid 20s.

11/10 dogs if you have the time and space to train them and keep them busy.

How much activity daily border collies need?
What's the best way to get it in big city?

      Anonymous

I've heard they need a ton of exercise and mental stimulation or they get neurotic and destructive. Probably not going to get that if you live in a big city. Maybe if you're a retiree who spends hours taking your dog everywhere you could do it. If you work 40 hours a week you should not get an active breed. At least not a young one.

Incredibly based but probably the most demanding dig breed there is...also bad around children as they are known to herd them

if you want a bc, own a farm with a herd of animals they can tend
if you can't, you are denying them what's been bred into them.
they are really fricking smart and will outwit you in certain situations.

I would get a Border Collie if I could commit to owning one but I can't, thinking about having to go for walks 2 hours every day for the rest of my dog's life is too much to accept

      >thinking about having to go for walks 2 hours every day for the rest of my dog's life is too much to accept
It's honestly comfy and becomes routine very quickly as long as you have some nature around you. Even on days when I'm in an utterly shit mood and dread leaving the house I end up in a much better place just because my collie knows our schedule and gets us Wauf. Also, I frequently lose track of time in my local forest and park just hanging out with the dog. Way better getting outside in all sorts of weather than burning that free time online

They're herding dogs, 2 hours is 2ay too little. Do more research on a breed before considering getting any s dog.

What do you mean with right size?

        Anonymous

Smaller dogs aren't as fun to play tug of war and the like with, and larger dogs usually come with all kinds of health issues and a shorter lifespan on average, besides taking a lot of space, Border Collies exists in that perfectly balanced space on the dog size spectrum, basically.
        Why?

          Anonymous

I thought Border Collies were a small dog. Labs or German Shepherds are more like "real" dog size dogs.

As far as I'm aware, by average size and weight, they are smack dab in the middle between the tiny and giant breeds.

A border collie requires more space than most bigger dogs. Fricking things need a high country station to run around on, and a couple thousand sheep.

Old post, smart take. My 15 year old Border Collie is getting ready to pass. She's the best dog I could have asked for. Funnily enough, she was returned to the local shelter twice for her high energy. Loved to go hiking and on walks, she could Frisbee for hours, and she was great with other dogs/cats. We have a so-so sized yard but I never had issues with her getting bored/destructive during down times. It probably helped that when she hit 5 that my mom started keeping chickens. She loved guarding them and keeping away the hawks.

They definitely aren't the breed for everyone. They're active and need things to do but my experience was nothing but pleasant.
