I don't love all animals, just like I don't love all humans. But my dog was family to me, an I loved her immeasurably, and would've put her wellbeing above any human stranger.

All my friends are upstanding individuals. I notice people who don't have a dog or a cat, tend to have a friend that basically is a dog or a cat, or end up with one later because people tend to make more friends as time goes on. But 500 times more dangerous and unfixably filthy, while animals can be kept fairly safe and clean while being more useful than "those" people (you know what kind of person i'm talking about).
However, people who have a dog or a cat, or even a fricking bird, always seem to have friend circles without compromises. Having that steady low-tier presence tempers your monke brained instincts and helps you uphold your standards in times of weakness. God made them domesticate themselves for a reason.
pets are good standards and a good indicator of your own sanity
like you might not want to own that pet in particular
but you should be fine with other peoples, as long as they're well kept
if someone really just hates YOUR dog/cat and is mean to it or treats it like toxic waste, with very few exceptions... red flag, kick them out before you end up stabbed 13 times over a $50 and a gram of missing weed you didn't know existed to begin with until 2 minutes before you died.
on the other hand if you are a shit dog/cat owner living in filth like pic related with a skittish/aggressive yowling rat or a barking shitbull shitstiff shitperd mutt, that helps people who are better than you avoid you better.
pet ownership helps maintain civilization. where it's demonized, banned, or no one has an interest in it, civilization is of lower quality.
it's really right up there with banning incest and outlawing pedophilia in how the long term effects help elevate a culture to new genetic and psychological heights. pets, the great pleb filter. who hates the pet? only the one who feels like it might replace them - good riddance.

I have several pets because I literally give zero fricks about people. If I had to choose between saving some random baby or my pets from a fire I wouldn't even hesitate to go for my pets first.
