With all the cats vs dogs console wars here, people forget the real most hated pets irl are small breed lap dogs. "Dog people" only worship big dogs and hate lap dogs even more than cats. I always hear rude comments here like "they're rats" "they're annoying" "not real dogs" "if a guy owns one he must be gay" etc even on Wauf so why does everyone dislike them? They're clean, low maintenance and never harm nor frighten anyone
They can be annoying with the yapping but I don't hate those silly dogs.
Lap dogs can be great and they are more fitting for a lot of people's lifestyles than large dogs.

I think that's the main problem and your 3rd and 4th points are surely related to the 2nd.
The first point is debatable, some toy dogs are indeed breed by demented people to look the ugliest possible but it isn't the case for all of them and some people are actively trying to save the breeds.
Not all of it is down to training. Some small dogs are more likely to be predisposed to aggression such as terriers for instance.

I've also found that breed matters. I have two small dogs, one West Highland Terrier and one Shetland Sheepdog, and I've found that people who fall into the second category dislike the westie more than the sheltie, which is odd.

Small dog hate is weird. Sure they bark a lot but so do big dogs when they are trying to tell their owner about an intruder so it seems like a moot point. It seems to mostly stem from the same weird kind of insecurity that keeps people from owning cats since keeping an animal that can't kill someone is gay or something.
Personally to me a dog is a dog but I prefer small dogs at the moment since they live longer than big dogs on average and make great house pets.

They're bred to have certain appearances with no concern for the health of the dog. I love em though.

Small dogs can be very pleasant if they are trained well and you take care to respect their space (they seem to get resentful if you're always picking them). It's also inadvisable to have them around other, larger dogs, or to have them around children. The larger dogs will cause resentment in the smaller dog (mogged too hard) and the children , in their inexperience, will unwittingly abuse them and smother them too much, causing the dog to feel aggressed upon and bite.

If you lived with one against your will or next to one you would know why. They are debauched animals, mangled in the facade of a "teddy bear" to appeal to the hearts and minds of middle aged women whose nest is empty or who never had children to begin with. They are hardly dogs and they are often crossbred with other magnificent breeds like poodles and labelled as healthy doodles or "pedgiree toy poodles". They are disgusting and most importantly so inbred that they are not healthy at all. They live longer lifespans but they will have tumors larger than their heads by the age of 14 and will go blind, deaf or even lose sense of smell entirely. Loss of bladder control is common and they will become wobbling piss machines. This is not even going over the yapping and disproportionate levels of aggression these dogs present on average which again is often down to dysgenic breeding. They are vile and I have intense, visceral feeling of disgust towards them and any owner who think they are "cute" or "acceptable" for a dog to exist in such a form.

Maybe background noise to you but not to everyone esle. I have lived with many varieties of cross poodles because of family members. Exceptions exist but are often not the norm with small lap dog breeds.

No it is also anything with terrier in their bloodline. Terriers are fricking deranged in terms of their potential for aggression and it is the reason why they were interbred with bulldogs. Also you can tell that to young kids. Small dogs still possess a risk to small children and are often the source for canine phobias in young adults.

kek, no. My family has one of those (my parents just got her last year). She's quieter than their Jack Russel Terrier but she still barks all the time, and she makes other weird noises. Ultimately she is less annoying than the JRT though, and you can pet her without your hands smelling like dog.
