Why do attractive people have attractive pets?

Not always true. I had a pretty dog and I'm not attractive. People would always complement my dog even when she got old. My sister and niece are pretty and they have a shih tzu.

Attractive people are more likely to be intelligent. You can be ugly and smart, but this is just statistics.

now ask yourself what kind of intelligent person would get a companion animal that continuously leaks drool and smells like a skin infection or an unwashed oily neckbeard ponytail when you can get a spitz/sighthound that has neither issue?

Your typical "attractive" dogs like huskies, salukis, samoyeds, aussies, and poodles are significantly less territorial/dominant aggressive. At the most they have prey drive which is a non issue if you dont keep prey animals as pets alongside them. Ugly dogs are typically bred for guarding, dog fighting, or for taking down larger prey so they're more likely to transfer that aggression to humans and other dogs when stressed.

Even well bred ugly dogs have health issues innate to their deformities, while attractive dogs health issues are totally avoidable by good breeding. If you're smart, why go to the vet more than necessary?

Something like a husky/poodle/saluki doesn't need professionally groomed often, only brushed/clipped at home. That's less time and less expense. You CAN have them groomed for the looks, but they have good coats that only require a proper washing twice a year if nothing goes wrong.

A lot of these good looking dogs are genetically predisposed to being peckish. There's a greater chance you'll get a dog who lives off less food for their size, and doesn't have a labrador's appetite for poop and literal garbage.

Training a dog like a husky or saluki is different from training a dog that was "bred to love you". The dog is smart, but not directly obedient unless you are holding the treats in front of them, so you focus more on habit formation from the start. Only smart people can even get this soon enough not to ruin their dog. ANY dog trained this way is easier to live with regardless of their command obedience performance. Dumb people can't handle primitive breeds.
