Does anyone here have that fossil reconstruction meme that says something like "how a paleo artist would depict the animal"?

      Here's an elephant

It as a parody of "how an alien would depict the animal based off the fossils". Also who drew that picture? I want to see if it started drama.

I don't think scientists would assume that elephants were emaciated

It varies with the times. In the 19th century, you had a lot of comparisons to elephants and rhinos, and as a result there was arguably an over-emphasis on musculature (just look at the OG Iguanodon), and this continued during the early 20th century when everyone assumed dinosaurs were slow and stupid. It was the late 20th century that really encouraged shrinkwrapping, but this was done with the intent of removing what might be considered superflouous - as because dinosaurs had bones with holes in it, you need less musculature to support those the overall body. Did this go too far in a few places? Yes. But I think pic related is very fair, even though it's pretty fricking shrinkwrapped.

Any alien paleontologist would look at an elephant's skeleton, realize that it must have been muscular in order to support its relatively heavy bones, and that'd be the end of it. Most twitter paleoartists are stupid and trendchasing. The original point of All Yesterdays - which was to discourage orthodoxy in paleoart and encourage creativity - has more or less been lost and now a new orthodoxy has been established where if it doesn't have some useless tuff of feathers on its head and gaudy colors then it is "inaccurate" despite zero evidence.

            ok
            >"showing paleoart where thing kill something else is... LE BAD!"
why? people photograph and record polar bears, hyenas and lions all the time eating messy kills. and before you go "WELL that's not useful" yes it is, it allows us to understand the creature's eating habits, as well as it's ecology, etc.

              >it allows us to understand the creature's eating habits
No, it allows you to understand what the artist thinks its eating habits were. The fact is we don't know. All we know is that some were predators or something based on teeth. They're animals we've never seen distanced from us by millions upon millions of years. You probably shouldn't assume its whole personality and disposition based on some bones. Paleo art is a meme.

                refer to this

if you have a portrait of a normal-looking t-rex eating a triceratops people aren't gonna go "uwu so sexy guru le edjy" they're gonna think "wow, so that giant, badass extinct lizard hunted other giant, badass lizard things. that's so cool, bro" and if you say otherwise, you're intentionally being disingenuous. brian engh is cheating btw, that weirdo goes out of his way to get mocked seemingly.

if you have a problem so much, for instance, how do you think the Tyrannosaurus rex ate it's kills? Is it a crime to speculate?

                >how do you think the Tyrannosaurus rex ate it's kills?
                Doesn't matter. I don't know.
                >Is it a crime to speculate?
No, but acting as if you know is pretty stupid unless you have evidence. To extrapolate too much just leads to fanfiction shit like Jurassic Park.

It's not "acting like you know", it's speculation. You can also base speculation off of genuine, concrete evidence. There are fossil Triceratops skulls with tooth marks in going in certain directions that basically tell us how T. rex would have taken the head off of its carcass.

                >it's speculation
Yeah, I know. You're basically writing fanfic, just fancier. It's a glorified version of a kid playing with dinosaur toys going "roarrrrr now my t rex just rips the head off like kapow SNAP *smashes toys together*"
I guess if that's what you wanna do go ahead, but that's not serious science. That's just playing pretend.
