Aquariums and places like Seaworld are generally in an area of the world where land is expensive. In some cases, they really only can ever have so much connected land. They tend to start attacking/chewing on parts of their tank out of boredom/insanity which inevitably breaks their teeth, so their keepers give them root canals on the broken teeth to minimize (not eliminate) the risk of infection. It would be as if your boss at work locked you inside the building forever and whenever you weren't forced to work all you had to do to pass the time was chew on drywall and when that inevitably chipped your teeth the janitor would just come and pull them out.
On a related note, orcas that hunt sharks will blunt their teeth with age due to sharks basically having sandpaper skin. Eventually they lose the ability to effectively hunt and elderly orcas rely on younger members of their pod to share kills with them. Wearing down their teeth on shark skin isn't equivalent to just breaking them off on concrete tank walls mind you.
