Why are cats so fricking weird?

I know animals in general are weird, but cats seem to be on a whole 'nother level...
I've also known of really nice cats, but also cats who killed newborn babies by either suffocating them or using their mouth/teeth or their claws...
Cats also seem to torture smaller animals for fun. I've heard of dolphins doing this as well, but cats seem to do it more often.
And yet they're so scared of so many things. Even thunder or lightning.

it's not unheard of for animals to play, and mixing in hunting behabiour with play isn't that much of a stretch.
also, in the wild, plenty of animals kill or cannibalize their young, particularly when they can smell or sense some kind of health issue with the newborn. it's a survival strategy to reclaim lost nutrients in the event of giving birth to offspring that are going to die anyway. cats don't know they don't need to do it anymore, because it's a behavioural adaptation that hasn't been selected against yet.

    >but also cats who killed newborn babies by either suffocating them or using their mouth/teeth or their claws...
… As in actual human babies or their own? Because the latter is pretty common among a lot of animals. Tom cats in particular will kill kittens to send a female back into heat.

Both actually. I've known of cats who have done both. Obviously with kittens it's easier, but an adult cat can still lay on a human baby's face and suffocate the human baby, even if not intentional, and the claws and teeth can also do lots of damage to a human baby. Like a strong bite to the human baby's throat could kill the human baby. Or even just the scratches from the claws that could get infected, especially if they scratch the baby's eye and blind them.
While this sort of thing is relatively unlikely, I've heard of it and seen it before. Usually irresponsible parents who leave the human baby and an adult cat alone together unsupervised.

Is it any surprise non-human animals are cruel sadistic motherfrickers with no moral compass?
Worst part, cats are FAR from the MOST cruel species out there...dolphins and monkeys despite their high intelligence are cruel, savage motherfrickers. And dogs, while popular, can be especially dangerous if they're medium to large.
And that's not even touching animals like polar bears, hippos, beavers, anacondas, etc...most of these dangerous animals are relatively big, but even smaller ones like beavers and honey badgers will frick you up if you invade their space or territory.
Overall I'd say polar bears are the most dangerous, but they're all nothing to scoff at.
Of course, even humans can be cruel sadistic motherfrickers with no moral compass...so not just animal specific. There, I said it before someone "corrected" me, saying humans can be even more cruel than animals. Because I already know.

Dude. I don't even know, dude. I don't even know what I expected of animals.
But it's still shocking, you know, dude? Like, wow. o_O

I'm 100% jaded and desensitized, so maybe I don't know what "fricked up" or "shocking" means anymore.
Not a flex, I've just seen a lot of shit. I've seen a lot of depraved shit on the internet. I've also seen several dark, shocking shows and movies that have fricked up shit going on in them.
Sometimes I wish I wasn't so jaded and desensitized. But then again, I find it good that the power of shock is usually useless on me, in case I needed to not be shocked for some sort of real life situation. In dangerous risky situations it's often best to control yourself and not let yourself be shocked too much.
              But yeah...TL;DR I've seen shit, and I don't give a shit anymore.

they are asocial mesopredators so they don't have to be smart, they just have to have killer instincts and be naturally averse to being eaten at the same time. but they're domesticated, so they're not necessarily any good at either of those things.

totally unlike dogs and humans (social apex predators).

    Hardware related.
Their senses let them see the world in a completely different way. Sometimes makes them seem callous. Sometimes makes them seem stupid.

Other anons are right but cats are mostly just moronic. Out of all of the animals I have handled and been around cats are pretty low on the rung. Dogs have moments where they make you think "your fricking dipshit", but you can often understand roughly the logic and circumstances that led a dog to act in that way. You don't get that with cats. When they act moronic it they do it in a way which is clearly counter intuitive to what they would want or the result from the outcome is just straight up self sabotage. There is just no clear theory of mind. Dumber animals like reptiles are easy to understand because they have a consistent theory of mind you can understand as an outsider with how they act on instinct or interact. Not cats though. Go onto any funni video feed with cats and then switch to dogs/birds/reptiles ect and you will start to see what I mean. Because of this whenever I see a cat I always see a tard on legs and its why I have a special appreciation for them. They just have enough neuroticism to give themselves a ton of character.
