When getting a dog, if you're a male, should you look for a male dog, and if you're female, should you look for a female dog or it's not a thumb rule? Can you get a female dog as a male and viceversa?

Adding to that, is neutering dogs necessary or not? Why it's neutering early so encouraged? Shouldn't it be better to see how a dog develops and evolves, and only neuter if the dog behaves badly or something? Otherwise you're just killing down good genes for nothing.

I wouldn't be too attached to any specific gender or breed of dog. They are all decent if you put in the work with the first year. My male mini Aussie dog has very few issues at 11 months old. I occasionally take him to the dog park because he needs to at least learn to not freak out when he sees another dog and learn how to deal with them. Wouldn't you know he is never the problem dog? Fancy that. Also, as soon as his puberty stage subsides, I'll be able to fully trust that he won't just dart at something interesting. I will say boys have more goofy fun personalities, but girl dogs can reach a high level of calm and grace that is unmatched. I just got a dog that was on the smaller side and was pretty intelligent. My wife just wanted something fluffy. We got a male because it fit out requirements and he was half price. $600 for a $1200 dog because he had standard black tri coat and brown eyes as an Aussie. He's still cute as frick. Pic related.

Males piss on themselves, females do not. There’s also a massive difference in the starting odor. Males stink. Period.

Breed also affects aggression potential, predation potential, and even cleanliness. Some dogs are basically immune to dirt and others need bathed monthly or more because breeders favored the least wolfy possible looks due to the angloid serf subhuman’s hatred of wolves, unaware that wolves evolved the way they did for a reason.

males do smell pretty fricking bad. I’ve always got “dog smell” off males of any breed but only females that are obese or of unhealthy breeds with wrinkles, lop ears, and longer “hair” coats rather than short or double layered “fur” coats.

IE: female GSD neutral scent, female golden stinky, male GSD stinky, female greyhound no smell, female basset smelly, female husky no/pleasant odor, male husky smells like pee

I guess her previous owner kept her crated for like 20 hours a day for 5 or 6 years so her development probably got fricked up, she has some really frustrating behaviors like incessantly rapid fire barking at you when she doesn't get something she wants. She's also by far the most food motivated dog I've ever owned, it's her #1 priority at all times and her diet has to be pretty strictly controlled because she'll just gorge herself. That said she is really intelligent and knows a lot of commands, and she's a cuddlebug when she wants to be, she's just pretty temperamental and pushy when she wants something

Genders in regards to human and dog relationships dont matter. There is no real scientific research suggesting that male dogs bond better to men or any other configuration. It literally doesn't matter.
Neutering on the other hand. All scientific studies point to neutering causing significant issues in the development of your dog. At the very, very least wait until they're fully sexually mature before neutering. The time this takes can depend on breed.

  13. 8 months ago

I've got a female dog and she's worked out just fine for me. So long as their spayed/neutered and are good companions, it really doesn't matter what sex they are. The only people who say otherwise are those who have watched way too much Dog-pill content.

  14. 8 months ago

Of the same breed, females are smaller and tend to be less aggressive. Males will have more energy.

Neutering and spaying are bizarre practices people do without thinking about it, like circumcision of human boys. When baby boomers were growing up, many of their parents lacked the common sense to have fenced-in yards when buying a dog, so their dogs would regularly roam the neighborhood, getting hit by cars or humping other dogs that they came across. Occasionally, this would result in a dog pregnancy, and they'd then be able to sell a litter of puppies to their neighbors for a few bucks' profit.

Through constant propaganda on TV, which boomers are uniquely susceptible to, they slowly came to understand the miracle of life as actually being a bad thing. Or perhaps it was partly resentment of the fact that boomer women were told they had to take birth control and get abortions, but their dogs were free to have unprotected sex. Prior to the boomer generation, it was not normal to neuter literally every single dog, and neutering early can deprive your dog of important developmental hormones. Having a fence solves unintended dog pregnancy, but the fact is that 99% of other dogs are neutered and spayed.

An intact male dog will have even more energy. If you do any kind of training, aggression is a non-issue. Walk them regularly, and their energy gets spent. A neutered dog still needs to be walked or else they get fat, keep in mind. Intact dogs will usually need to hump--neutered dogs might do it too, but sometimes they don't. I gave my dog a little travel pillow when he was 2 months old and he continues to hump the same pillow every day, going on 1.5 years old. He has never humped a person's leg, or anything else. He sometimes takes the pillow into the other room to have some privacy.

Literally comes down to personal preference, when it comes to work both males and females are equally capable

    >Adding to that, is neutering dogs necessary or not? Why it's neutering early so encouraged?

Unnecessary and perpetuated by the same culture that convinced us all amputating infant foreskin is necessary.

Neutering/spaying increases incidence of cancers, lowers muscle mass, kills drive, leads to issues such as incontinence, obesity, hair loss, and mental decline. There's a reason working dogs are never altered. Alteration is seen as easy behavioral adjustment but it rarely works in that department, and it's always done at too young of an age. A year old dog is akin to an 8 year old human and alteration at this age leads to lifelong crippling consequences

Male dogs are just too spastic and I don't like their nuts rubbing all over my furniture and plus they smell stronger than females. My extended family gatherings have a bunch of male dogs and it's always a humpfest but female dogs seem to have the ability to just tell a male to leave her alone easily. it's fine. as usual the rightoids in this thread are anthropomorphizing their dog's balls and overblowing everything (and the ones bringing up circumcision...just lmao). the increase in risks of certain things and whatnot are negligible. your dog is very statistically likely to die between 10-15 anyway, it's gotta be of something. i grew up with over 10 different dogs, all spayed/neutered, all lived happy healthy lives.

There is no such rule regarding gender. Get whatever you prefer. I prefer female dogs because I like giving them lots of belly rubs, and it's just easier when there's not a dong in the way with a male dog. male cats are fine because their junk is tucked away, but they don't like bellyrubs anyway.

Neutering males helps drastically with behavior in both cats and dogs, and spaying females is advised in dogs because it can cause a very serious and often fatal illness if you just let her go into heat regularly, and female cats are loud and obnoxious when they go into heat.

    >killing down good genes
unless you're trying to start a dog breeding business this is completely irrelevant.

Pyometra is a heritable disorder. Many unspayed females never get it. I have had intact huskies live close to and beyond 15 years, all female, all healthy til the end no pyo no mammary cancer nothing.

However, when they get older they stop having two normal heats and have one prolonged heat and you might not like over a month of bleeding midwinter

        Anonymous

Pyometra statistics are way overblown anyway, oh no there's a 20% chance an intact female will get it
They don't mention that this is over the course of their entire LIFE so it's like <1% chance of getting it per heat cycle, they're FAR more likely to get UTIs when spayed than they are to get pyometra if left intact.

If you do get a female I'd advise against spaying until they're like four or five if at all assuming you can prevent unwanted pregnancies. It amplifies mental problems and makes them far more likely to develop incontinence when you spay them particularly if you spay them at too young of an age, and weakens their bones. If you can't be sure as to wether or not you can keep her away from male dogs than it's fair to spay at a younger age. I'd totally advise against neutering male dogs unless they begin becoming aggressive or acting sexually as it makes them way more likely to become obese and again lead to hip, joint, and bone issues in later life. I own two unaltered female dogs and have never had an unwanted pregnancy. My old dog we adopted was spayed as a puppy and even though I fed her very well for the past eleven years and gave her loads of exercise now keeps pissing her bed and has ever worsening mobility in her old age.

I have only ever owned female animals, and shall continue to own female animals. Unlike humans I prefer the behavior of female cats and dogs to that of male cats and dogs. I think people should get whatever sex of animal best suits them as it doesn't really matter for the most part.

Always spay and neuter your pets. It extends their lives, cuts down on health problems, and takes off a certain edge. They are more domesticated without the prevalent mating instincts.

I think it should depend on the crime. If it's something serious like serial killing, serial rape, torture, child molestation, child murder, necrophilia, etc - in that case, the inmate has done some of the worst things you can do to another person, and the inmate has revoked the victim of their right to live a peaceful life, or maybe even to live at all. Why should a person who does that be allowed to keep their rights? We should use them the same way we use totally innocent animals like dogs, rabbits, and mice for scientific experiments and animal testing.

Yeah, It was also done on gay people (happened to the guy who broke enigma) and it was also used in history to castrate slaves, for example in ancient times after kidnapping and enslaving europeans the raiders would castrate the men before selling them. Of course back then It wasn't chemical castration but you get the point of It.

They were seen as sex offenders, gross, unmodest/unnatural/publicly indecent, sodomites and so on depending on where you go (even if they never had sex, the attraction was enough to burden them often in the eyes of others), so the brits' old justice gave the guy who broke enigma two choices (he couldn't tell them his heroic deeds or prove them as It was secret back then), get castrated or stay in prison, he took the first and then killed himself soon after. They weren't always just executed or lynched (or just accepted, that happened too), they were punished or tortured differently depending on time and juridiction, castration was one of these fates for some.

Males are cuddlier, more extroverted but more prone to aggression. Females are more standoffish but a little less reckless. Small differences though, the individual and breed matters way more than the sex.

      >Always spay and neuter your pets
no, do it if it makes sense (usuallytimes it doesn't)

      >It extends their lives
      it does not

      >cuts down on health problems
trade off gonad cancer and pyometra vs joint problems, osteosarcomas, incontinence, obesity and depression. And you can fix pyometra with an OSS without disturbing the sex hormones

      >takes off a certain edge
lol, lmao even. You just trade off dominance aggression for submission/timidity aggression. If you want your dog not to be edgy, fricking train them not to be, balls or no balls. Or better yet, get a breed that isn't fricking edgy.

      >They are more domesticated
cutting off gonads does nothing to change their genome which is what determines their level of domestication

      > without the prevalent mating instincts.
If you have a b***h, keep her away from males 2 weeks out of the year during heat. If you have a male, don't expose him to b***hes in heat. Outside of that window, dogs don't care or think about sex unless they're being horny teens or unless you train it into them (or omit to train it out of them during their horny teen years)

      https://i.imgur.com/OqqlpFp.jpg

When getting a dog, if you're a male, should you look for a male dog, and if you're female, should you look for a female dog or it's not a thumb rule? Can you get a female dog as a male and viceversa?

Adding to that, is neutering dogs necessary or not? Why it's neutering early so encouraged? Shouldn't it be better to see how a dog develops and evolves, and only neuter if the dog behaves badly or something? Otherwise you're just killing down good genes for nothing.

      >Why it's neutering early so encouraged?
because it's easier to sell by bundling it with other puppy procedures while people are still bringing their pup in for the basics (shots, etc) vs when the dog has become an adult and owners have had time to notice that nothing bad happens when you leave dog gonads intact. This, even though the ONE ABSOLUTELY INDISPUTABLE FACT in the dog nuts wars is that early alteration 100% fricks a dog's joints and growth plates for life. Vets don't care, they just want to get paid.

Wrong, I'd encourage exposing a male to b***hes in heat just so he knows how to handle himself around them, obviously in a controlled environment.

Dogs aren't so brainless that they completely lose it when they smell a b***h in heat, but it's something you do have to train over

Any recommendation? Mine just hit 11mo and he's a horny bastard around big b***hes. He has 3 that he's regularly around. 2 are spade and not an issue beyond it just being gross and messy, but the golden won't be getting it done for a year or two. 2/3 don't tell him off at all and the golden rolls over for him. He gets time outs and such, but I haven't seen any change. Even when he's been exercised beforehand, he'll go for a marathon and just keep going.

Ideally find an intact female that will tell him off, a lot of older intact females are really good at diverting a male's horniness to play instead.

But if you can't find a female like that, keep letting him play with that intact female, but personally correct him if he flirts too much (licking vulva excessively, or attempting to mount, or being too rough with play)

I'd say 10-15 mo is about the worst time to deal with it, after then he will start learning, but be consistent about keeping him in check

I should clarify personally correcting him isn't just a time out, you have to mark the behavior right when he's doing it (or about to). A loud clap or yell, ideally some command (stop, enough, off, etc), pull him off and force him into a sit or down if he doesn't comply, brief timeout is enough. It's more about the immediate correction.

Always give him a chance to behave properly again after releasing, and keep correcting as many times as it takes, it will take weeks and months but you have to keep it up

Females are always better. Smarter, more self control. If you don’t need maximum physical power they are simply better at everything, except getting in your fricking face. Males are obnoxious face lickers and they smell like musky piss and shit. Females have a light wet leaves smell.

Spaying does not cut down on health problems or extend lifespans. Good breeding and ownership does.

Modern breeders select for fecundity which equals more hormonal stress and higher cancer/infection rates. In females this has visible signs - grotesquely large teats and vulva. It’s also related to a biyearly heat. Dogs are actually meant to slow down to one heat a year after 2 or 3 years of age. Breeders dislike this for financial reasons. MAMMARY CANCER AND PYOMETRA ARE HERITABLE DISEASES THAT ONLY BENEFIT THE BREEDER. THIS IS WHY THEY HAVE A SPAY CONTRACT, BESIDES AVOIDING COMPETITION.

And good owners do not leave their dogs in the yard for ages or when they leave the house, which is what facilitates escapes, mismates, and early deaths.

The canine gene pool is polluted with SHIT. Do not just get any dog if you believe in living a good life instead of bending over backwards for an animal that was manufactured to be diseased. Do not sacrifice the cleanliness of your home or the peace of your daily life. Be as picky as you can, because dogs are largely ruined, forever. I love them, and I will welcome their extinction when this finally goes too far and you can’t find a good one that is not a mindless machine, a threat to your family, or an icon of disease.

      >Always spay and neuter your pets. It extends their lives,
I believe this to be a myth akin to the moronic idea that has somehow become commonplace among stupid people that, "the average lifespan of people in the middle ages was 35, so they had to have kids early because mom and dad wouldn't be around forever!" I shouldn't have to explain this, but average lifespan includes infant mortality and people who died in war. Obviously those factors will drive down the average, but won't affect the lifespan of someone who makes it to adulthood outside of wartime, who could still expect to live to around 85, even back then.

When you take all neutered dogs and compare to all intact dogs, you are including the kinds of people who own an intact dog because it's intact...and many, many, MANY of those people have a high melanin content in their skin, and use their dogs for dog fights, which of course cuts down on their lifespan. You also have the factor of intact dogs having more energy and curiosity, so even one owned by white people is more likely to jump a fence and cross a busy road.

      >cuts down on health problems,
As a blanket statement, this is a lie. The studies I've seen actually vary by breed. Some appear to be healthier if neutered, others are not. Obviously, a neutered dog has a 0% chance of getting testicular cancer, but the lack of important hormones through all stages of life development can lead to all sorts of problems down the road, including bone density problems.
