Both can be very loud, both require that you keep them with a mate and both poop a lot and you can't do much to control it except design your house around it, unless you intend to be changing their diapers (pigeon pants) constantly. I hear doves can be a bit louder/more constant with the cooing but with pigeons it's all down to personality.
They're very nice though, they're generally like quieter calmer parrots since most of what they do is mate with eachother, build nests, and chill with eachother all day.
As with any other animal don't get it unless you know what you're getting into, and then get it through your local rescue/rehab community. Pigeon/dove rescue people are really nicely networked and will help you a lot and vet people for adoption. They don't want you to adopt a pet you aren't ready for or you'll hate having so they'll be pretty honest.

Pigeons have huge amounts of morphic variability. I've seen some pretty ones with speckled white/gray/tan.
Seem like shit pets though, considering they have the intellectual capacity of rocks.
Pigeons are a lot more intelligent and trainable than cats and dogs and accompanied mankind as pets, livestock and working animals since the beginning of civilization.
Study their history and stop treating reddit memes like a source of documentation.

They are, at best, as truly intelligent as some of the dumber dogs like retrievers no matter how desperate they are to cuck out for a fractional chance of receiving some birdseed or attention.
