What critters invoked fear in you when you were young?
For me it was these frickers. Centipedes and spiders aren't shit compared to the horrors Earwigs created in my thoughts

Slugs freak me the hell out. I'd rather see a shark or a bear.
Fun fact, hold one between your fingers long enough and it will release a brown dye that will stain your skin for weeks or months.
I found out that the hard way but is true.
Thats called shit, anon.
Checked. It's the name. Who the FRICK thought to associate a wriggly bug bearing ass pincers with your ear?!
I actually had the opposite reaction to the name as a kid, once i was told that they dont go in your ear the name just because a silly name so i associated them with silliness and would let the crawl on my hand when i found them.

Back in primary school, these were often all over the small trees in the courtyard, and we were always told not to touch them because they'll spit burning fluid on us if we do.
I always believed that. But what can I say, I was young and didn't know any better.
Jerusalem cricket, or we called them potato bugs. In retrospect I'm surprised that they disgusted me so mych; they look like giant puppy ants.
These frickers do NOTHING to harm humans, and actually kill pest insects. Nevertheless, I hate them.
Crawdads. We had a doughboy pool that went unused for probably 3 years. 3 years of sitting and building algae.... My.cousin threw in crawdads in it... Maybe a year later we went to drain it and there were like 500 fricking crawdads in there, they were everywhere. I would dig in the sand box and there were live crawdads. The front yard, the neighbors yard, crawdads. Fricking terrifying
That's awesome
well...did you clear them all out with a crawdad boil?
My first thought.
did you ever see any odd genetic variations? I would imagine in a scenario where you have hundreds, I would be looking for oddballs just out of curiosity
moths. not moths in general, but the fear of infestation. we had an infestation once and it was nasty shit
trips of horror, can't these guys bite you too?
Bees. When I was a kid the media was going crazy about Africanized honey bees colonizing the Southwest.
this, but because i got stung when i was like 10. my mom hung up the laundry outside and one of the pieces was my swim shorts so she took them down and when i put them on i felt this searing hot pain in my right thigh. the most traumatic thing as kid
