Under the right conditions is there any chance in hell of a cat and dog creating a baby?

I believe its possibly happened at least once or twice in history. There was a story from the 17 or 1800s where a male small dog and female cat were said to have created 2 babies, 1 a cat which was basically a copy of the mother and a stillborn who was a hybrid and monstery looking

Every article I found on it was either saying everything is fake and a hoax or enthusiastic with clearly photoshopped photos, doesn't look too good so far

So far most sites in favor of a possible hybrid tend not to explore the past precisely, they're very vague and don't cite dates or people which isn't a good sign, only site that attempted to take a good look at It was this one (http://www.macroevolution.net/cat-dog-hybrids.htmlwhich) specifically focuses on hybridization as whole and even It squints at the "proofs", sadly outside of this one I haven't heard of 1800's attempts cited anywhere, closest is macroevo's takes which attempt to bring to the discourse.

    Genetic incompatibility makes that impossible.
Thus making OPs such as this completely moronic.

you could probably do some frankenstein chimera shit to them in a lab but there's no way it's going to survive to infancy

So this leads to the question - what are the two most distantly related mammals that can still produce living offspring? Most distant of other vertebrates? What kind of freakish hybrids can be bred?

I know that guineafowl and chickens can breed, but it's very rare for a baby to actually hatch
