iirc it was more that identification was difficult and that a lot of the people were either former loners/hobos or they brought their family with them and they were all killed together with no surviving relatives. You need to remember that a lot these people were black and from poor communities.

Technically most christians are not christians. Muslims were once considered christians. Mormons are still considered christian for some reason. You could argue that catholics are heretics and therefore not christian.

What's so Christian about a guy who continually visited Cuba and praised Castro, called Mao Zedong his "hero", openly aligning himself with Communist regimes all over the world which had invariably repressed Christians. His ideology was first and foremost Marxism with a focus on feminism and pro-black politics, similar to Angela Davis and Martin Luther King, who also used Christianity as a guise to further Marxism in the US at the behest of the Soviet Union.
Jones himself wished to be a Communist dictator which is what drove him to become a freebooter and starting his own colony down in Guyana, which led to absolute disaster of course.
