All animals are disposable if >you are feeding it to a pet >you are eating it yourself
The only thing that would make an animal nondisposable to a human is forming an emotional bond with it. An animal's value isn't dictated by how cute, intelligent, or even the species. The only thing that assigns value to an animal is how much meat you can get off of it. or if you have an emotional bond with it. I would eat dogs, cats, horses, feed parots to my pets. IDC
This is coming from someone with a pet dog. I collect fish as well. I love them all, but I recognize the fact that they are going to die eventually. Some animals just die more often to serve a purpose.
Chinese attitude. Very short sighted. The man who is stuck thinking there is a famine causes one himself. He never considers others, only his stomach, and strips the world bare. You could hardly call such a creature human. It’s a mix between the mentality of a herding herbivore, a chimp, and a locust.
Value is utility and RETURN ON INVESTMENT, which has society-wide expenses and is quite complex. Dogs have less meat on them than went into them so eating dogs is throwing away food. So if you have a dog it’s not profitable unless you use it to acquire, produce, or prevent the loss of more value than what went into it. Which can be a society wide return as well, ie: dogs extend lifespans and reduce crime, depending on whether or not you use each dog properly, which requires creativity and adaptive intellect that herd- people aka bug-people often lack.
None of that matters when they're bred in millions and sold for a dollar to morons who will keep them alone in a finch cage and feed them thistle seeds. Post disposable animals.
T. Used to work in a large chain British pet shop. Not that one.
I was the go-to fish girl. I was the only person on the team who knew anything about fish. I'm semi-active in aquarist communities, so I was NOT prepared for just how fricking braindead the general public is on fish care. Especially Goldfish.
Regular interaction: >Hey can I get a fish?
Sure bro what are you thinking? >Oh, a goldfish!
Ok lol cool. What kind? We have comets and fancies. >Oh uh. These ones, the round ones.
Cool, we have black moors, Orandas, Telescope Butterflies? >Uhh.. Uh that one
Awesome, what size tank have you got and how long has it been cycling for? >Oh uh. Its about 15l. We got it yesterday for the kids
Ok so fancy goldfish need about 70 or so litres per fish. I'd go as low as 50 if you have really good filtration. >70 Litres??? For a goldfish???
Yeah they can get as long as a foot in some cases and live up to fifteen years. >My uncles' best friends' sisters' grandad had a goldfish in a bowl and it lived for seven years!!!!
Haha that's not a very long-lived goldfish. >And what is cycling? You mean I can't get a tank AND a fish on the same day???? That's ridiculous.
It probably shouldn't have but it genuinely surprised and saddened me with how little the general public seems to care about those little guys. Goldfish deserve better.
What? Most people treat cats like disposable toys. >take care of it? no. i wont. cat goes outside. >cat didn’t come back? new cat time.
even on Wauf we get “my cat is dying what do (no i wont go to the vet)” at least once a month
statistically cats receive less elective and essential veterinary care than dogs and there is less awareness regarding their heritable diseaes
free kittens are more likely to be acquired for abuse or animal testing while non-pitbull puppies typically go to vetted owners
when dogs were in courts the french burned cats in the street
the fact is, cats have been horribly abused and neglected throughout history. it’s even culturally acceptable to neglect and abuse them ffs. it sucks to be a cat.
We live in a world where saying >cats should be allowed to run free and die free
Makes you a good person but saying >dogs should be allowed to play in the road and die free
Makes you a complete idiot and likely psychopath
Despite the fact that cats are often MORE affectionate than dogs!
chickens are fricking stupid and produce a lot of meat

Do "feeders" count?
Fish, snakes, and birds are not pets. Fish and reptiles don't give a shit about you and they only thing they think about is that they want to escape their stupid box.
Birds are smart but not letting a bird fly around and just keeping it in a cage is jail.

tbf cats are smarter and better at avoiding dangers, while wild dogs bite people and eat toddler chow.
It certainly depends on where you live though, on whether or not you can let your cat out.
Cats are much dumber than dogs and bad at avoiding more complex dangers like predation. Dogs are much smarter but overestimate themselves severely. Additionally, many dog breeds would not be dangerous to the public if they were outdoor pets instead of true feral animals. A dog that has had all its vaccines, a loving home to return to, and that is not a degenerate dangerous breed like a pitbull or australian shepherd is no issue.
Regardless, the average lifespan of an outdoor cat is two to five years, and unattended animals have no one to clean up their shit, which spreads parasites to humans and wild animals alike. Toxoplasmosis infection from “outdoor cat culture” causes roughly seven hundred and fifty deaths, almost entirely infants, in the united states each year.
Keeping dogs and cats outside are equally bad activities and equally easy to justify for morons in equal measures.
>A dog that has had all its vaccines, a loving home to return to, and that is not a degenerate dangerous breed like a pitbull or australian shepherd is no issue.
Bullshit.
First of all, even if that was true that would eliminate 99% of dogs because most dog owners are shit and don't properly train their dogs. They only train them enough to be sit when they're holding bacon, not to not harass people.
Second, dogs are not good at finding their way home, and get lost.
Dogs have to be trained to listen and not bother people, and not be violent, which is difficult because they are so attention hungry.
Twice this month I've been just walking and have been accosted by a dog, growling and barking at me with the owners no where to be seen.
>cats are smarter
last time i was in mexico i saw a cat walk up to a dog and get eaten immediately
the dogs owner, I suppose it was their owner, a lot of dogs in mexico are “everyone’s dog”, was watching with another mexican and exchanging pesos
i also saw them being chased down and attacked by chickens. sometimes you’d see street chickens eating dead cats and small dogs.
cats are dumb as frick, as dumb as chihuahuas or worse, and the only reason they survive outdoors near civilization is because they breed like rabbits and have lots of people feeding them
>cats are dumber
I guess it's not really discussing. I just watched a video of a dog jumping in the water to play with a dolphin. There are infinite cases of dogs being stupid and smart, and infinite cases of cats being stupid and smart.
Cats have half as many neurons in their cerebral cortex as a chihuahua. Their stupidity is not up for debate. Cats do have better eyesight and reflexes, but they are extremely dumb.
>noooo bullshit
It’s really not bullshit. Dogs are born violent or they are not. Training doesn’t change it. There are no dangerous dogs made safe by training. They are constantly supervised with an attitude of paranoia and these mutts… or shall i say, german shepherds, should just be put down. Getting rid of dangerous examples of a species is called domestication. As for being accosted, who cares, you’re a pussy. Introverts don’t have rights. Dogs aren’t even necessarily attention hungry. Many would prefer to ignore you unless you are a clear and present danger, ie: if you have a phenotype typical of highly dangerous hominids. In that case, good job doggo!
this is the sole difference in their “folk” observed “intelligence” (muh common sense and ifyaknewbetter situations aka not a scientific measurement of intelligence)
a dog jumping into a dolphin pool is not stupid, just optimistic.
>Cats have half as many neurons in their cerebral cortex as a chihuahua. Their stupidity is not up for debate.
Ok then what about birds? pea size brains compared to even the tiniest dumb dogs, yet a bird is the only non human to ask a question. Many can also use tools and problem solve. Brain size/number of neurons isn't the only factor.
The rest of it is you literally sort of proves my point or is irrelevant to the fact that dogs are a bigger liability running around unsupervised than cats, mixed in with some butthurt

Anon, you fricking moron. Those smart birds have primate like neuron counts in their pallium (bird version of the cortex). Yes, neuron count matters. A lot. Dogs also have more developed frontal lobes, mammal to mammal, than cats. Cats are moronic
A bunch of medium sized golden retrievers with all their vaccines would be a cat tier presence
But people tend to care more and cope less if their negligence gets their dog killed. Cats are disposable.

Nice troll post OP.
Daily reminder budgies can come when called and have the intellect of a three year old child and are supposed to live minimum one decade.
>three year old child
Now that's what I call disposable

So they're like half as smart and 2/3s as long lasting as a dog?
Not bad for an animal that weighs as much as paper, I'd say
