Feathers wouldnt appear in the fossil record, so this shark could have been both water and air based

what if all those ancient "extinct" creatures are just regular animals with strange mutations like a shark with gigantism or something

There is no living shark with teeth like say, the megalodon, to stay on topic. No living shark has a 1 or 2 inch meg tooth or anything like it, they are notable for being unusually thick for a shark tooth. Not to mention the avalability of 4-6 inch teeth in deposits dating 2-4 million years ago.

So, which posters are the worst on Wauf?

    >The dolphin frickers?
    >The Paeloschizo's?
    >The cloaka yearners?

This thread got destroyed by the dolphin frickers who feel like their desire to imregnate cetacians means they have to shoulder their ancestral hatred of sharks, so I'm leaning on them being the worst. But the constant schizo threads about feathered dinos are up there.
Never entered a bird fricker thread, and they tend to stay in their threads so I have no opinion on them apart from my base disgust.

Okay, Wauf. Megalodons are back, they exist, enough so that they're not considered endangered and humans aren't allowed to hunt them. How does this affect the oceans?

      Anonymous

Immediately start preying on large whales and competing with Sperm Whales/Orcas. The latter basically drove them to extinction in the first place.

        Anonymous

Jesus christ orcagay I've agreed with you for months about orcas being based but you're getting annoying when you keep peddling this blatantly incorrect information that just takes a quick search to debunk. Megalodon went extinct because of polar glaciation causing sea level drops which restricted them from accessing nurseries.

That's because Orcas caused the ice age with their echolocation-derived psychic abilities

We already found a near complete fossil of one of its relatives and it didn't look like that.
We also have a snout bone which was blunt and rounded, more so than any modern relative aside from the megamouth shark.

      Anonymous

What is the best snout shape for such a large predator ? Submarine-like or torpedo-like ?

        Anonymous

It depends on its hunting method. Megalodon frequently rammed large prey so it was hypothesized to have a blunt snout even before fossils were found to prove it.

I see ! I can clearly imagine a Megalodon ramming a prehistoric whale to death
Maybe they also ate squid, like sperm whales

Great whites also frequently ram large prey.

            Anonymous

The "large" prey of great whites are wienered water bears though.

      Anonymous

Would that necessarily be a good comparison when you consider the size difference? What does that mean for the 20 metre 100 tonne estimate that was done recently

        Anonymous

In regards to fin size and placement, I'd assume that it would help come up with a clearer image of what a "basic" otodontid may have looked like.
On the other hand, estimating the size of megalodon is still a challenge considering the disparity in size of the two animals as well as the occupation of different niches.
