My point was more, this guys gone crazy but I don't see them all swarming.
dying doesnt really matter, because they only live a couple of months, but swarming causes them to find more food, which is a snowball effect of encountering too much food. when the eating is good, you want to eat a lot, so grasshoppers devised a way to take advantage of them food is in abundance, if a lot of grasshoppers are congregating in an area to feed that means food supply is high, so they should breed more since theres enough to increase the population, this also means everything bigger than a grasshopper can also start feeding as well since prey is now in excessive amounts
>"hey we should all go insane for no reason" and everyone just listens to it?
Refutes the above and explains why I just had 1 going for the window.

Ok but that consumes all resources at a pace way too fast for it to regenerate before almost everyone dies off
I understand getting moderately more fertile according to resources, but that explosiveness seems to do more damage than not, but maybe it also weeds out competition so overall it works since it damages everyone the same way
everything dies off in the winter anyway and regrows the following spring, its no different than a bush fire, except this bush fire provides an abundance of food for predators
If you knew what they knew, you would go insane too
i am litening to locust abum rn
ever been around a group of blacks?
I still don't understand the logic of
>too little food?
>mutate to eat... more food
because youre retarded, its not
>mutate to eat... more food
its
>mutate to find more food
Why are these guys so cute?
>Why are these guys so cu-
Still cute. Also i'm pretty sure those are toys
>toys
Nope.
What species is it?
plains lubber
Very cute
>no reason
When you’ve got too many in one place, something drastic has to happen or that population will starve and die out if it stays put.
This guys been on my balcony jumping at my window all day. Just because one decides to go crazy doesn't mean they all do I guess.
oh god, we are literally "one of the good ones"ing fuckin grasshoppers now lol

It is an innate trait that emerges in response to coming into contact with many other grasshoppers during their growth period.
What's the evolutionary advantage that comes from this behaviour? It ends with most of them dead

what really matters is most of them reproducing before dying, evolution doesn't care about what happens after it

I don't normally say this but I think it's meds time, brother.
