Living with a cat while being allergic to cats

My mom got herself a kitten despite well knowing that I'm allergic to cats. I can't even live in the general vincinity of one without getting a runny nose and burning eyes. If they rub on me then my skin will turn red on the place the cat rubbed on. It's that bad. I can control my symptoms somewhat with chlorphenamine but it knocks me out.

I need to know whether it's possible at all to live in my home under these conditions. If anyone who's allergic to cats actually managed to live with one then please do share what you did to be able to do that.

Right now my only other option is to straight up just live with my aunt and I would rather not.

I'm allergic to cats and live with my stepdad who has a cat.
Make sure it never gets in your room (always close the door), and only leave your room to use the bathroom, eat, or leave the house. You should be fine if you aren't a wuss.

    OP here
Update: my mom says she got the cat to try and kick me out because I am trans. Now that I'm staying with my aunt she convinced her to also get a cat.

    >It's common for people my age to live with their parents here.
That doesn't mean she likes you or wants to take care of you, it just means it's less socially acceptable for her to outright kick you out. I'm going to assume she's single, in which case you living with her also makes her dating life harder. If getting your own place is unfeasible you can look into sharehouses and part time labor, if you aren't poor she might even be willing to cover your expenses if you phrase it right and make it sound like you want an experience instead of that you're blaming her in any way.

    You have a shit mom.

Also, all these people that are like, "LOL EXPOSURE THERAPY IT'LL GET BETTER" are morons. It doesn't always get better and in fact can actually get worse.

Ask your doctor about immunotherapy and see if it is right for you. This involves getting a shot, usually every four weeks, for 3-5 years, so it may be too slow for your situation for your liking, and in the meantime you'd have to make due with corticosteroids and leukotriene modifiers.

    Good luck.

She doesn't have to "take care" of me. I'm an adult and I take care of myself without anyone's help. She doesn't have a reason to hate me either even though she does. I help her with everything and I was always there for her. As for the dating thing, maybe. She goes on dates but none of them haven't come home yet. Besides all she has to do is ask and I'll spend the night somewhere else.

I have one other option and that is to move in with my aunt. She would love it but she's too overbearing and treats me like a complete child and her house is a bit further away from the campus... But I guess I have no choice. I do work part time but it's not enough for rent and food here. I don't like the idea of roommates either.

She paid for the roof over your head as well as your food, which she probably cooked as well, so she was doing the bare minimum of taking care of you. She probably feels like you've stolen her youth, many single mothers are like that. Obviously someone who wants to tell themselves they're a good parent aren't going to tell you that they'll be getting some strange so you should frick off for the night. Besides, your house would still be a house a kid lives in even if you aren't there, which still makes her a single mom. My mother still pretends she doesn't have children in many social contexts, and I moved out nearly a decade ago. Hope things work out with your aunt, she'll probably mellow out for better and worse once you've been there for a while.

I don't know where you are in life, but this could be her nonconfrontational way of saying she wants you to move out. Even if its possible to cope with your allergy, all you might be doing is forcing her to express herself more bluntly.

I used to be allergic to cats. Then I got a cat. Now I'm not allergic to cats anymore. Immersion therapy is real anon, just tough it out and the allergies will go away.

      You have 3 options:
      >convince mom not to get cat
      >move out
      >neutralization of allergen cause
      Best case scenario:

      >Then I got a cat. Now I'm not allergic to cats anymore. Immersion therapy is real
      Worst case scenario you're me
      >allergic to cat dander, fur, and saliva
      >asthmatic since birth
      >exposed to cats for 2 years
It's been years since these cats have been here as the owner got rid of them. It seems as if my asthma, which was under control for 10+ years, has been reactivated. I'm back on daily use inhalers and huffing/puffing while doing mundane shit.

      >poisoning cats
Kys, anon. Death by poison can take hours of excruciating pain. In the video game ARK: Survival Evolved, you would, theoretically in a video game, bundle a Smilodon in a blanket. Then proceed to terminate said Smilodon with a Primitive Longneck Rifle (unlocked via engram @ level 36, depending on server settings). It should despawn in about 15 minutes, but you can just drag it somewhere else or have your tamed pack of Deinonychus have a snack if you don't want your tribemates to bother you about it.
When asked, tell the truth: Smilodons are predatory creatures with an indomitable spirit of exploration and freedom. One cannot cage a Smilodon. They will eventually return to the wild to continue to circle of life and death.
      >but anon, I'm not level 36 yet
You can download mods that include a small device typically used to dispatch livestock utilizing pressurized air. I hear the mod maker Ama-Z0n sells their mods for cheap.

I'm allergic to cats. currently live with 3 with no issues. animal allergies are really easy to desensitize yourself to, usually in a month or less. just use anti-histamines until you're there.

You can get an allergy test done and they have shots that will make it better but it's takes forever and it's a ton of shots. Mostly it's a not much you can do but get on allergy pills that work thing and make sure the cat never goes in your room/get an air purifier type thing.

    Living with allergies is hell
Your mom sounds like a cu t but this is pretty typical cathomosexual behavior, putting stinky dirty cats above their actual human family
She might also just want you out of the house
If it were me i would move out and never visit again

you will not survive in these conditions, you should kill the cat and feed it to your mother. after she eats it, reveal what you just did and if she attacks you simply kill her and inherite everything. if she seems docile you have control over her.
