It can be a problem if infects a baby or a person with a severely compromised immune system.
France is the country with the highest infections last I heard, and French men seem to be the last white men with any real sex drive left to them. All toxo really does to people is make them slightly more aggressive and men produce a little more testosterone.

If more babies start to get infected by it, it will be a problem. Until then, it's not really that bad.

It kills 750 babies in the US alone each year. That is over 20x as many as are killed by pitbulls each year. Thousands more are maimed by the disease because of brain and vision defects.

It would be in the single digits if cats were not let outside or falsely believes to be pest control. Cat worshipers are worse for society than pit mommies.

        https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/rr4902a5.htm
Acute infections in pregnant women can be transmitted to the fetus and cause severe illness (e.g., mental moronation, blindness, and epilepsy). An estimated 400-4,000 cases of congenital toxoplasmosis occur each year in the United States. Of the 750 deaths attributed to toxoplasmosis each year, 375 (50%) are believed to be caused by eating contaminated meat, making toxoplasmosis the third leading cause of foodborne deaths in this country.

        https://www.cdc.gov/parasites/toxoplasmosis/gen_info/faqs.html
Keep cats indoors. This is because cats become infected with Toxoplasma through hunting and eating rodents, birds, or other small animals that are infected with the parasite.

The association between Toxoplasma infection and mortality: the NHANES epidemiologic follow-up study:
A total of 14,181 cases were included in the analysis, of which 3831 (27.0%) were seropositive for T. gondii antibody. The median follow-up time of the whole cohort was 22.5 (interquartile range 16.3, 24.5) years. A total of 5082 deaths were observed in this cohort, a mortality rate of 35.8%. All-cause mortality was significantly higher in the seropositive group than in the seronegative group (50.0% vs 30.6%, P<0.001)
Toxoplasma gondii infection is associated with higher mortality in general population.

Toxoplasmosis is a parasitic zoonosis and an important cause of abortions, mental moronation, encephalitis, blindness, and death worldwide.

The only effective prevention is never, once, letting your cat outside and removing all current outdoor cats. One cat turd can end or ruin a childs life. Now you should also have an idea of why dog owners are required to pick up their shit.

For 98% of people it's a benign infection that's a non-issue and they likely don't even know they have it nor have they been ever diagnosed with it. If you're an infant, pregnant, or have an extremely compromised immune system, it may cause some issues but those aren't likely to be serious either and they're easily treatable. Also, not all cats have toxo, if you live in Europe or NA then the majority of cats won't have it and if the cat in question does have it, you're unlikely to get infected unless you completely neglect your hygiene and rub cat litter in your eye after cleaning their litter box or what have you. You can also get infected by eating undercooked meat from free range pigs and goats and game meat in particular but if you live in a 1st world country then it's really just undercooked game meat that's risky and there are bigger risks involved with eating wild and undercooked game meat regardless of toxo.
So naturally, on a website where vaccines = ze vaxx/the clot shot that killed millions, every cat has it, every cat owner has it, every cat owner adjecent person has it and they're all zombies controlled by a parasite, except you, the independent thinker, you're alright. Kill all cats.

Toxoplasmosis may present some low-severity issues such as decreased reaction time (in the order of milliseconds), negligibly higher susceptibility to mental illness, and some other stuff. Not a big deal but worth noting that there are at least measurable effects. https://nsuworks.nova.edu/cnso_bio_facpres/390/

As a proud toxoplasmosis host, I am happy to let you all know that I don't suffer any I'll effects from our symbiosis. I provide the toxo with nourishment from my brain blood, and in return the toxo grants me certain social powers. It is a mutually-beneficial arrangement. I hope one day that all of humanity will come together to live with toxoplasmosis!

  16. 9 months ago

Most cat owners do NOT have toxo. It's the un-owned outdoor cats that contract and spread it.

Yes, if your cat is an "outdoor cat", you do not own it. It is a feral animal. Same thing for dogs or parrots or anything.

well, it's not a real issue unless you're a pregnant girl but I rather not be infected by it, the real issue are moronic cat owners (the overwhelming majority of them are) who think being infected by a parasite that makes you addicted to cat feces is good and something everyone should have, they're literally mentally ill, their infection makes them defend cats on Wauf

  22. 9 months ago

it's a problem that someone who may have never come in contact with a cat may contract it because people decided their cats cannot stay indoors. It's not so much about the severity, but the arrogance of cat owners who created the issue.

At the end of the day, if the spooky scary brain worm that makes rats autistic, and causes loud headlines I newspapers as well as other disisases, was actually harmful, maybe we would have some solid evidence on that CONCIDERING IT INFECTS 60% OF HUMANS IN SOME AREAS. So since people are not dropping dead, or turning into zombies in thosands on a daily basis, I'd say there's a good chance it's harmless. Also there's like a good dozen of other super common parasites that we know are harmful, and nobody gives a shit. Invasive amoebas kill like 100k people a year, and only god knows how many develop lethal symptoms from various helminths.

Fact check: 50%. The other 50% contracted it from eating incompletely sterilized vegetables. Considering meat is more than 50% of the human diet and people gravitate towards raw vegetables AKA salad, that's not surprising

Would the toxoplasmosis be in the food if there were no outdoor cats?

      Yes or no question.

Reminder: toxoplasma gondii is incapable of completing its life cycle and shedding eggs if it does not infect the gut of a cat.

Humans are obligate carnivores and need meat to be at their healthiest.

Humans who abstain from meat must expend excessive amounts of energy just to construct a livable diet and are still more prone to general weakness and neurological dysfunction. Humans evolved to eat meat and depend on it.

At the least they need a fricking egg or something.

But Toxo is still a fricked-up brain parasite that fricks with your brain and your behaviour and makes you more likely to engage in dumb,
reckless behaviour and get into car accidents (per the Czech study).

Humans are not obligate carnivores numbnuts, we're omnivores like most normal animals. It's why we taste like pork, we share a similar diet.

              Anonymous

Except we are, you don't know the definition of carnivore.
You can feed a dog or a tiger a human diet and they will survive, that's far from healthy however and so is it for humans.

We literally have been eating meat near exclusively for 2 million years.
We have one of the lowest stomach ph in the animal kingdom due to being scavenger, not only are we built to eat meat we can even stomach rotten meat in normal condition (meaning you didn't destroy your digestive system with modern processed crap).

Anon, humans normally eat mostly vegetables. That's why you're naturally drawn to the taste of sugar. The modern West is fairly close to 50/50, but that's the exception. Yes our stomachs are able to digest some of the most toxic shit, even E. Coli, salmonella, botulism, etc. are often nonfatal when untreated, then there's mushrooms, grains, chocolate, molds, fermented foods, alcohol, etc. things that no true carnivore can easily stomach.

                Anonymous

fruits are not vegetables, the human stomach cannot digest that much cellulose because our duodenum has diminished. the ability to eat poison and rot has nothing to do with the ability to eat vegetables

I don't have exact numbers and I can't be fricked to find them but a not-insignificant amount of America's food is imported from country's where there are a significant amount of wild felines that do have access to the stock before it gets exported.
