I have a German Shepherd pup which is 4 months old. How do train this dog will protect me and my yard? I want it to attack on command and attack anyone who enters my yard to steal or vandalise my shit. So far I have been feeding it raw meat, doing basic training where it bites my sleeve, and "rough play" where I rough it up and make it aggressive.

I do not live in an area with proffessional trainers and all the training advice I have read so far is trash.

I sincerely hope this is bait. If it isn't, though...

Stop all of that, right now. Except maybe the raw feeding, but only if you're raw feeding correctly following the right muscle/organ/bone proportions. If you're just throwing the puppy slabs of raw meat, you need to stop that, too, because you won't be meeting its macronutrient and micronutrient requirements. You're going to turn the dog into a liability that probably will bite people you don't want on your property, but will also bite you, people you care about, the mailman, anyone who comes to your property to perform maintenance on it. Chances are you will be legally required to euthanise the dog for biting someone it should not have.

You will need to join an appropriate training club for bitework and protection. Probably a Schutzhund club, although it should be noted that not all GSDs are cut out for bitework and protection. It will depend a lot on lineage and temperament.

Right lets get this straight. Only I perform maintenance on my property. I have already told the mailman not to enter my yard because I have a puppy in training. Everything I am doing is just a little bit extra than standard nothing really totally unacceptable. I'm just making sure it isn't passive and weak. Most people take away the dogs prey drive by making it sit for food or yelling at it when it kills small animals like chickens. I on the other hand make it kinda attack me to get it's food and tell him good boy when he does hunting activities.

        >Most people take away the dogs prey drive by making it sit for food or yelling at it when it kills small animals like chickens

No, they don't. They focus the dog's prey drive/aggression, so it will only be directed at things they want to direct it at, not at everything indiscriminately. My GSD sits and watches me and waits for a release cue to eat his food. This is basic obedience, and is crucial for developing a good bond with your dog. He is not to chase livestock or native fauna, which are the sorts of behaviours that will get him euthanised, but I will give him a release cue to chase rabbits. He has plenty of prey aggression. I play with him with a flirt pole. He loves it, but he has to release the lure on command, because a drop/out command is essential in any dog -- but particularly essential in a dog that does bitework.

You're setting yourself up to have a wildly out of control dog and running the risk of being seriously injured one day by your own pet. There is always a greater than 0 chance of being killed by your own dog, but you are drastically increasing your chances.

Ok so how do I direct my dogs prey drive?

by joining a proper training institution with professionals
all you'll manage by yourself is a dog that will try to kill you as soon as it gets a bit bigger

I'm not paying you or joining your cult. These "professional trainers" are over opinionated opportunists who know jack shit.

I have already told you. If you seriously want a dog trained in bitework and protection, you will need to actually go and join a bitework and protection training club out in the real world, where you can receive hands-on, constructive training on how to train your own dog. The people in those sorts of clubs are incredibly serious about bitework, and know precisely what they're doing, and what not to do. You may need to travel some distance to do this. If you are unwilling to do this, then you should give your dog to a more responsible person who will not cause it irreparable harm through outright irresponsible handling practices.

The direction you're heading now will get you seriously harmed and your dog killed.

You are a real peice of work I will give you that you son of a b***h. Wish I could get my dog to attack your ass right god damn now. I will do it myself thanks. It's like plumbing or electrical work, a few youtube videos and I will be on the right track in no time and saving a shitload of money I can spend on fun activities.

My dog bites me everyday but they are only puppy bites. It's called training, i'm a reslly good amateur trainer. I just need to know it's going to defend me or my yard in a real situation.

It will not unless correctly trained, and you will need professional assistance to train it correctly. Like I said, you will need to join a training club for protection/bitework. You may have to travel for this. I've considered doing so myself. My nearest club is 4 hours away.
