I live in Germany's north western part and we have a big garden and only a few butterflies visit us regularly mostly the common white ones cabbage butterfly but i also saw a few Red admirals over the past couple of weeks. We don't remove all the Nettles and other weeds. Our neighbors are fucking evil and spray all kind of poison. I wish i could win the lottery so i could but all the neighboring plots and re-nature them with wildflower meadows and trees. The biggest plants our neighbors have are shrubs.
I saw a lot fewer this year than last year. I have swamp milkweed in my yard and most years it's swarming with swallowtails, a few monarchs, and the black wasps with bluish iridescent wings. This year it only occasionally got butterflies.
I get weird fucking infestations in my house. No dragonflies yet but I once had an infestation of fireflies and my basement was infested with frogs one summer.

I live in a city. I see butterflies all the time.
Just the other day a dragonfly flew into my house and started smacking itself around the walls like the stupid bug it is
probably something wrong with it, and that's why it flew in your house in the first place.
