    Hiss at them and stop playing. No shouting, no physical punishment, just hiss and ignore them for a bit

    you flinch harder than usual when your cat bites. i did this and its taught my cat to go lighter on me. your cat will do the same with you if she loves you enough

        I thought this once with the first kitten that was all mine and I had to spend the next several years de escalating the situation so it didn't look like my arms had been in a woodchipper. Lesson learned.
        My most recent cat is really good with his claw discipline. We still rough house but unless he gets really excited he hardly ever bites or scratches hard enough to leave a mark.
