how do i brush a large dog that hasn't been groomed in 2 years?

i live in the middle of nowhere and there's nobody i can hire to groom my large dog so i will have to do it myself
he lives outside and hasn't been brushed or bathed in a couple years, i recently tried to groom him but my brush just keeps getting stuck in his matted hair
what's the proper way to do it?

Why do people force dogs to live outside?

Wolves can do that. Dogs cant. Not unless you have a fricking husky or something that’s basically the housecat version of a wolf, and only a well bred one, most of them don’t blow their coats properly anymore or have enough prey drive.

Your average modern dog owner has roughly the IQ of a tube of toothpaste. 95% of them are completely unfit to take care of a pet rock, let alone a fricking mammal with complex needs.

      cat owner mentality

"they are animals, they belong there, they are happier there, keeping animals indoors is dirty because animals are dirty. i know, i just checked and the animal i've kept locked outside for its whole life is dirty."
they say, as their persian hides under a piece of scrap metal, fur essentially ruined and home to 10 different lifeforms, before darting out because it heard a noise and getting hit by a car, and their pitbull with mange finishes digging under the daycare fence

        >unprompted seething about cats
        Why are doggays like this?

Nobody seethed about cats. cats are totally separate from the cum guzzling morons that victimize them. Cats are lovely animals. Cat owners are brainless ogres. There is a difference.

Do you think a clam could be a good pet?

            Also agree
Majority of people just aren't suited for pets. OP should rehome his dog and promptly kill himself

With a double coated dog it literally makes no difference as long as it has a shelter.

        >it makes no difference btw my dogs coat is impossibly matted and beginning to harbor fleas, ticks, and fungal infections, and wound healing is now impossible.
Wolves chew and comb through each others fur daily. Your dog is alone and neglected. Like you would be without anyone to make you soap.

Matted hair can be extremely uncomfortable.

Get a dematting brush, or a poodle grooming brush and go to town. If it's really severe you may need to shave hum down.

        >poodle grooming brush
        like the ones that roll?
i have something similar to pic related and a regular hair brush
        both of them get stuck
i also read that if you shave a double coated dog it'll frick it up forever

If matting is extremely severe the only option is to shave. You are correct that their coat won't grow back correctly.

Pic is the brush I'm talking about. A pin brush is for better maintained coats.

Get a steel comb as well. If you can run a steel comb through the fur it is well groomed.
