Thanks, animal rights activists.
Unironically self-filtered from buying a dog, because I'm not signing a 10 year contract and paying $2,000 for one.

Can't even get a hamster in a 20 gallon fish tank without morons hounding you with IT'S ANIMAL ABUSE UNLESS YOU GIVE IT 2 ACRES OF INDOOR SPACE.
I'm buying a Roomba instead, it's a fricking nightmare to actually obtain a pet anymore.

Are you that mega autist that REEEEE'd for months, reposting the same whiney shit about how literally everyone you asked on every board told you that you needed more space for a hamster?

Same deal here. You don't NEED a pet. And by all accounts, you would be a shit pet owner, even if you were so rich that $2000 was pocket change. Cry more.

They are right, though. Animal ownership should be significantly reduced and given only to the toppest of tiers of good owners. Too many morons out there, anon.

What's wrong with adopting one who was horribly abused? Those dogs need good owners more than anyone.
If you mean you're worried the dog will be impossible to housetrain and will just shit on the floor her entire life you can actually ask the shelter for a dog who's already been trained not to go on the floor.
I do agree government regulations on pets go too far. I don't like how you legally need to keep getting rabies vaccine boosters for a housecat in Texas her entire life now. Would have preferred keeping my cat inside and unbothered by vet visists unless she actually gets sick vs. taking her to get injected again every year.

      >every year
Unless your particular municipality specifically requires otherwise, most places in Texas allow a three year interval between rabies boosters now.

You need to get the three year kind for that to be allowed. The one they gave my kitten at the shelter was the one year kind so the expiration date on it is some time in 2024. I don't know why they use a one year kind of vaccine still when there's a three year kind available but it also sounds like a lot of vets might only stock the one year kind too.

Ask the 30 people who died in pitbull attacks last year. Go, line up every single one of those 30 coffins, have the family present, and tell them "its ok, its actually pretty rare, abused pitbulls still need homes".

And while you're at it stop by the 1 german shepherd victim and 1 rottweiler victim

So don't get a pitbull and don't get a large dog. Usually the shelter will let you know if the dog has behavioral issues anyway. And you spend a little time interacting with the dog before adopting.

Shelter dogs are usually good. You get to see how they act around other dogs and can get a good idea how friendly they are before making any commitment. My previous dog was a shelter dog and he was great. I picked the 2 I have now up from off the road as puppies and they're good dogs as well. Personally, I don't think buying a dog is a good thing just considering how most puppy mills are run. The 2 I have now were tossed out by some piece of shit breeder at 3 weeks old and basically left to die

harder to abuse and neglect an animal if it has access to nature at a rural area, you can't expect all apartment dwellers to have the effort to give their pets an acceptable life
