Dungeon Menshi has a very fun, well thought-out example, even adding reasons to why weak monsters such as pic related exist. Everything has its place in the cogs of the ecosystem.

It's dungeon meshi good as a sort of serious manga or is it mostly gags about food?
Both. Solid storytelling, world building, and art direction combined with DnD style dungeon delving/problem solving crossed with contextual food porn. I think it bloated itself out a little bit but it never really feels tedious. One of those ones where you go "yeah this *needs* an anime," and an anime should hopefully trim some of the fat (so to speak) to elevate it. It also doesn't concern itself with any overt romantic subplots and focuses rather on camaraderie between the party. I'm very pleased the anime is in the works
