stream is up, usualy in the morning cuz it's live, the fish sleep at night cuz it's bad for their health if they dont rest. Sorry, I will try to do a rerun for you
Real plants are easy - get some anacharis or Hornwort or other similar stem plants and you literally can't kill them, plus they export a lot of nutrients that you otherwise have to water change to remove.
thank you I will check out anacharis and Hornwort in the near future, I have to go to pet store because the green glofish jumped out of their quarantine tank last night.
I will add plants asap, they should have those at the local petsmart or local petstore, thanks for the recommendation
You'll probably see Anubias and Java moss at those stores, they are both easy to grow with low light requirements (don't bury them entirely, they absorb nutrients from the water more than the ground) but don't grow very quickly, so their impact on nutrients is low. Anacharis and hornwort can be planted or just left floating and will grow like crazy. If you can't get them at local store, they're basically the cost of shipping online because they grow so fast.
Guppy grass or duckweed are other floating plants that grow fast and quickly, but duckweed in particular will require you to scoop out handfuls of it every week or two.
Alternatively, find a local waterway and take plants from there.
Oh, and get some snails. Petco or petsmart may give you some for free if you ask when you buy plants or fish, but if not, ebay has Malaysian trumpet snails for about $10 for enough to start, and they'll clean your substrate, move the fish shit underground where it can rot and be used by plants, and generally keep the tank cleaner.
I have 1 nerite snail in my beta tank, but I will heavily consider plants and snails in the 20 gallon, I am worried the tank is already filled w creatures as its only 20 gallons and i have 7 fish in there, it should be fine right? if i add snails?
Nerites and "pest" snails don't add much, if anything, to net bioload. If anything they may be a net negative. Bigger snails that don't clean well - Mystery, Rabbit, etc. - add a very little bit to bioload, but less than their weight in fish would. Plants are a "net negative" that gives you more space for fish.
What fish are currently in there? If they're not big fish, you've got plenty of space, particularly if you add plants to break up line of sight and give them more places to hide.
