Crazy how so many ancient cultures have a flood myth. Crazier how cultures entire world apart from one another describe the behavior and features of dragons and they are nearly identical. Yet all academia can still say is they were digging up dinosaur bones and drawing what they thought they looked like. Yet the legends and subspecies variants and drawings regarding features almost always has another culture with another drawing thats 'nearly identical.

Oh look several hundred images and descriptions over the course of 2000 years of a very specific animal. the manner in which it laid in wait and attacked elephants. Oh but no , not a real animal didn't happen. It's the world's longest running zoology fan fic at 2 millenia. Of course they just dug up some dinosaur bones and made some shit up

Not the first time someone faked paleontology discoveries and it won't be the last.
Can't wait for a few decades from now when we find out how many Chinese discoveries are fake.

How would you be able to tell a fake one from a real fossil? Why are 90% of feathered dinosaus discovered in Chyna, mister scientist?

          >Why are 90% of feathered dinosaus discovered in Chyna, mister scientist?
Because all dinosaurs were feathered and Chinese geology preserves the feathers the best.

That T-Rex was proven to have mange. All dinosaurs were feathered. This is no longer debatable.

Was mange really around back then

Not related to the conversation but birds do get mange - just not the same kind as mammals. If dinosaurs were feathered, it would be logical there were diseases that affected the feathers or caused feather loss.

                Anonymous

Yeah, that would be my assumption too. I do wonder how prominent diseases were in general back then. You rarely hear anything about them being a problem for dinos and or even anything else beyond people.

                Anonymous

The problem with discussing animal disease is animals kind of (and I mean "kind of") don't get diseases in the same ways that Humans do. Humans are very social and live in large groups, and we participate in activities like intercontinental trade and the raising of livestock, and all of this results in a very special environment for disease. Humans get and pass around diseases at levels other species would find absurd. We're not dirtier, it's just the perfect environment.

Most diseases in animals result in a slow agonizing death or are just totally ignored. Mange falls into the first category, as in the late stages it's pretty fricking bad for wild animals.

Fossils have a very different structure compared to the rocks around them. So, you actually just touch them or in some cases, lick them, to know weather or not they're genuine fossils. If it doesn't feet like too much different than a rock, it is fake.

I hope you're not christian, you have lots of fake stories, like the entire founding myth of your religion. Every religion I can think of has some alternate history that provably did not happen unless it was founded by dimension hopping aliens.

          Key phrase in this article
but no one ever studied it in detail

Feathered dinosaurs evolved in that region and plenty fossils have been studied in detail.

So 90 years ago, someone tried to preserve a fossil or emphasize its shape with varnish, and it was rediscovered and misinterpreted as fossilized flesh?
If it wasn't an intentional forgery, that's pretty funny.

    >“The only fossil that I am aware of that was painted over rock is a fossilized crayfish which was made to look like a giant spider,” (China, 2019) Rossi said. “In this particular case, however, the type of paint wasn’t identified, but I bet is a carbon-based one similar to what we found on our fossil.”

The fossil (which is indeed just a pair of limb bones) is actually real. It's the painted outline that isn't. The fact that the forgery managed to remain undetected for so long is kinda baffling and embarrassing. But knowing quite a few paleontologists myself I don't find it surprising. Scientists are just ordinary people, and some of them can be simply moronic.
