So just to give some context, im not the biggest fan of dogs. Ive gotten mauled multiple times for seemingly nothing by "the friendliest dogs" and have over 50+ stitches to prove it. I don't wish any harm on dogs just have the mindset of "they can chill over there" kinda thing. Now my roommate on the other hand loves dogs. So much so he got one while i was working. He has been aware of my fear and my only non-negotiable when moving in was no dogs. Honestly i would just move out regardless of where but our lease has another 8 months on it. I was even willing to begrudgingly tolerate it but last night it attacked my cats and hes saying MY cats might have to go. This dog has to go and the only way im seeing it happening is if it becomes to annoying for him. Any ideas?

Anyway aside from the usual worthless dog/catgay console wars it sounds like the biggest problem here is a lack of respect and impulse control. He already knows your opinion on the matter and just decided "hey I think I'll get a dog" without actually consulting you, or considering there were already animals in the house, resulting in a territory dispute that the critters won't understand. Any free roaming animal is like having a new roommate but they're basically autistic and you have to train or at least mitigate troubling behavior.
8 months is awhile to have this kind of bother and it's be way better to sit down with your roomie on this rather than get into some petty bullshit. It's a lot of extra stress and responsibility you didn't get a say in receiving

This happens a lot. People feed chocolate to dogs and they XD. If you do not know the reason why then do not search it up. It will incriminate you. Some other anons have made good suggestions. Change the locks to your room and leave your cats inside with food, water and a litter box. Make sure to leave some toys and a cat tower inside your room. You will need to spend some money to temporarily solve this issue until the 8 months are up. Good Luck

If there are no legal means available, you will have to adopt out your cats to good homes. I don't think that you'd have standing to sue your roommate and they're clearly an illogical selfish actor, so if you want to do the right thing it will be extremely emotionally painful for you.
