This is ultimately the crux of it, breeding in bulldog types (that were "obsoleted" with the banning of bull baiting) is ultimately going to get you essentially a vicious little bastard that terriers are, on steroids with the added bulk and tenacity of a bulldog.
Even coming to serendipitously own a large bull breed that's "not" game, they just don't get to mingle with the "general public" of dogs, and I'd agree that only a relatively fit man should ever actually own one. Mine is only somewhat reactive to other large unneutered males that "challenge". Having actually been attacked by a few genuine APBT (the usual, got loose and immediately looked for a fight lel), I do notice that APBT really do start fights for fun, like the dog was having a good time and immediately went back to happy after being rekt by a dog 4 times its weight.
I'd still consider the actual APBT as not a "pet"/family dog, ironically "proper" dogfighters (read not black) are probably the most responsble place for them even though I disagree with dogfighting on the whole
