I have a crate. The young fella has a bit of separation anxiety. I put him in it when I leave the house, and then five minutes later whoever else is home lets him out, because he's no longer in danger of having a tantrum about me leaving by then. If no one is home, it doesn't matter anyway, because I rarely go out for longer than about half-an-hour, so he's never locked up unreasonably long.
I leave the door open, and he often puts himself inside it. I'll come down the stairs and find him inside, sleeping. Look at him. He loves it.
I crated him more often for the first six weeks I had him. Overnight, and if I needed a break from intensely supervising him during the day. After that, he grew out of his puppy crate and he'd figured out house breaking and not destroying my things, so he didn't need to be crated when I couldn't watch him anymore.
I crate TRAINED my dog but I will never CRATE my dog. Caging an animal when they're just not maximally convenient is a sign you should not have that animal.
You aren't entitled to a dog >bbbbut they will chew on my couch when i leave them alone for 10 hours
Give the dog away you fricking moron. What, is it the only pussy you're getting? Get a cat.
Crate training is the best method of housebreaking a dog. Any dog trainer will tell you this. The real question is, do turd worlders NOT crate train their dogs?
What does this even have to do with that post? You use crate training to housebreak the dog, it's not like the dog lives in the crate the rest of its life
Even people with big houses should crate train, you frickin dope. It teaches the dog not to piss and shit where it sleeps. Get with the frickin program.
>get a new dog >he's terrified being in a new environment >set up bed in crate, remove door, drape a sheet over it >now he has a place to retreat when overwhelmed >take it down after a couple weeks when he's comfortable

Are you like, insanely rich? How much do you travel? Is a dog so important you'd take it with you instead of giving it to someone if you're moving to another country?
I'm no rich man but I've moved between countries and across the US 3 times (for work and other reasons) within the last year and I would never dream of leaving my best friend behind
Getting him crate trained and used to airline travel at an early age was probably one of the best things I could've done
Yes? You heartless piece of shit
Shit dog owner spotted
If you're in Europe or North America you can just do that with your car and still not see everything there is to see.
But I'm assuming you're talking about doing something cool such as spending a whole year traveling around the country with your dog, and not just putting him in a box twice a year so you can go to a beach somewhere for a week.
You don't need crate training for roadtrips per se but it still definitely helps
>Yes? You heartless piece of shit >Shit dog owner spotted
It's just extra stress for the dog who doesn't care that much about new places to shit in the first place.

Why do introverts want to force their lifestyle on their poor dogs, which were literally bred for hundreds of years to work in and enjoy the outdoors?

Dogs are highly routine oriented and prefer a consistent group of friends, especially spitzes.
Wolves are autistic hobos. Not many dogs are any different.

indefinitely? the point being made was about moving out of the country, and that twats suggested giving the dog away
>Is a dog so important you'd take it with you instead of giving it to someone if you're moving to another country?
YES! my dog was 12 years old and i still brought him across the planet. best $1500 ever spent, and he lived another 3 and a half years with us. imagine leaving your best friend with someone else. gtfo this board

They usually have beds and stuff in them. If you are putting them in a small ass box like that for many hours a day you should receive similar punishment.
Everyone should teach their dog to be calm in a crate even if you dont want to use one at home
If theres an emergency your dog's reaction to being crated could literally be the difference between life and death
Man I wish I was put inside a cage too. I belong in a cage. I'n a wild animal too.

Some people abuse crates though.
We're (mostly) a lot more respectful of our best friend than some cultures I could name.
You are saying they aren’t the absolute worst like if that were a good thing.

the dogs we had growing up had an entire room for themselves and had heated floors for the winters. try not being poor/living in an apartment

I am trying, but most of us aren't born in wealthy families and have to put actual effort
nobody cares

How is it different from a doghouse though

What kind of shitty terrified dogs are you getting
I rescue abused animals
soften your heart
Crate training is extremely important from a young age
Good luck transporting your non-crate-trained dog on a plane he will have the worst experience of his life
Also it's an absolutely critical skill for any working dog
Why would my dog randomly be put on a plane?
You'd never fly with your dog anon? Bring him across the continent or even to another country and see the world with him?
Are you like, insanely rich? How much do you travel? Is a dog so important you'd take it with you instead of giving it to someone if you're moving to another country?

Not anymore since I trust her to not kill herself while I'm at work
Congratulations on your dog's detransitioning.
