If you’ve ever seen a large shark in the water, you realise how stupid these sorts of questions are. I’ve dived with bull sharks and gone cage diving off South Australia, and they can be so fricking fast they make people look like slugs. A big great white can weigh up to 1.5 tons, and they move effortlessly through water. I would rather take my chances against a lion or tiger than a great white in the ocean.

I feel like if I were underwater and hampered by diving gear I wouldn't be able to swing the knife hard enough to puncture the shark. On the surface however, I win with minor wounds. And on land, he's dinner.

Theyre probably hard to kill being primitive and having no bones and youd have to stab really accurately

No, the hide of a gws is too tough and underwater you have no leverage to exert your strength from, so you won't be gutting it, that's for sure. If you somehow managed to stab your knife deep enough, if the shark decided to take a joyride to the bottom your only options are to hang on and die, or let go and lose (and then probably die)

yeah, a great white cant even do anything unless you're in front or behind it. If you just roll away from tail slaps and bite attacks you could punch it in the side until it dies.

Yes, humans have hunted sharks throughout history. Don't get me wrong, a human in the water armed with only a knife has the odds stacked against him but that's not to say it hasn't already been done.
