you have a baby tortoise now so built it a pen, get the correct lighting for it and enjoy your new companion which you will pass on to your great-grand children some day
>turtles live in water
Only aquatic turtles do, numb-nuts.
The humble box turtle would like to have a word with you.
All tortoises live on land but not all turtles do.
>The wildlife rehab people told me to put it in the desert but idk where.
It couldn't hurt if you put them near water. It will need to drink eventually, and everything it would want to eat, from insects to worms and herbaceous plants, should be more in abundance by the water source.
The things that will want to eat it will also be in abundance by the water source, so you might just be feeding a bird or weasel by releasing it.
I'm pretty sure they get water from the vegetation they eat. Also I took it to a hill away from any roads on the south side of town and released it under a bush. Godspeed little guy ;_;7

call another wildlife rehab. Don't just go tossing tortoises in the desert at random
There's only that one.

The distinction is important, turtles live in water and tortoises live on land.
Look up what they eat and put in an area with that

Yeah I figured it wasn't aquatic based on the fact I live in the desert.
Maybe it was aquatic some millions of years ago. I've heard some deserts used to be seas

You did good. They are endangered so more of them in the wild is always a good thing
