Looking for evo simulator games, any kinds really, spec or not.
>inb4 go to Wauf
It is impossible to get a proper conversation started there, so I figured I'd ask where people actually care about animals and have whole generals dedicated to it.

Interesting no one mentioned Adapt. It looks like a spore clone but more accesible. Demo is just the creature creator I think?
Evolution board game if you're into that. There's also a.mobile version iirc
I recommend The Sapling. It's in early access currently but the dev appears to be making good progress.
Pokemon bro
Thrive.
>Thrive
I discovered thrive 10 years ago, game is still in the cell stage. What the frick
It's been pretty dead until the last couple years. They're making a lot of progress now though.
Cell Lab, it's a game for Android.
Pretty simple, but still a great game with a lot of cool multicellular organisms to be created.
There are a lot of evolution sims and games coming out recently. An older one I remember playing with is Species ALRE, it was fun.
Seconding this, probably the best evolution game out there, since it really integrates biology and evolution into legitimately hard and fun puzzles.
Also seconding thrive, though it's not really ready yet.
Surprised no one mentioned this, I played the demo so much as a kid but never had the full version where you could evolve elephant people and reptilians. It's a Win 98 game and I'm a moron so I've had little success running it these days.
I tried this once but its so barebones its not even a game
Evo the search for eden
I forgot about that one. It's easy to cheese and yet I got filtered by the shark boss and never made it to land. Also no invincibility frames, brutal.
I got bored before I could beat it but the music and atmosphere is so damn good in this game.
Is Spore good? I remember it being something everyone was hyped about, then everyone hated it when it came out, and now it's like everyone agrees it was always a fun game
The consensus is Spore is good until the Civilization stage, where it turns into a completely different game
There's the spinoff for the Wii that just focuses on the creature stage. Honestly pretty fun
Spore is a fantastic game that is limited in scope. Evolving your creature isn't super important, nor is adapting. It's like an RPG with upgradable body parts instead of equipment tbh.
Would love to see a remake with tons of emphasis placed on selecting traits in order to overcome specific environmental challenges.
The Eternal Cylinder is basically that. You controlling a little herd of creatures that you give different traits to help traverse through biomes that are completely distinct in their ecosystems. It is however alot more linear then Spore with an actual storyline going on the entire game.
Man. Spore feels like a fricking fever dream. I remember randomly clicking on and watching random YouTube videos of it as a kid and having no clue what I was looking at or what it even really was but I was still mesmerized by it all the same. Wouldn’t mind giving it a try now.
I dick around on SimLife sometimes, you can play it free in your browser on an abandonware website, although it's really old.
There's also the Creatures series which is a blast, though the learning curve filters tons of people, especially these days since all the old fan websites explaining what the frick is going on have died or broke over the years. That said, I'm as dumb as a rock and even I managed to figure it out, so don't be discouraged. Just refer to the wikis. Plus you can do wolfling runs, which is where you just hatch a bunch of eggs and let the norns learn their own language and evolve via natural selection on their own. I bought it because I wanted to support the creator (he's a literal mad scientist) so I don't know how or where to pirate it, sorry. Also there's still COBs out there you can download and inject in-game to improve quality of life, the GOG version comes packed with injectables.
For a more modern game, there's Niche. Never played it myself but I heard there's a lot of micromanaging, take that how you will.
Also my little brother likes WobbleDogs, but I don't think the evolution is subtle and natural unless I'm misremembering.
Uhhhh there's ancestors the humankind odyssey? It's about australopithecus though, no major evolution happens in the game besides just trying to survive in the miocene as a monkey.
Spore's also pretty good for this kinda thing for the first two stages being cell and creature where you can add shit to your species and adapt as necessary. It's not at all realistic but it's something, otherwise I've got no clue sorry.
I remember there was an RTS game called Adapt or Die where your units could self replicate and mutate. You could let them evolve with environmental pressures, or just selectively breed the right units for the task. It's not directly related to animal evolution, but it was a good representation of how populations of organisms mutate and adapt to their environments.
It runs on Adobe Flash and is old and jank as frick, but it still might be worth touching
