if that's the way you approach having a dog you shouldn't be allowed to have one.

Absolute shit advice. If a person doesn't have time for a dog, he's not going to put in the effort to socialize a cat and give it enough stimulation not to be a shit pet, and will ultimately declare it an "outdoor" cat.

You can have a cat entertained with some money investment, cat boardwalks so it can look from up high, cat toys and some window place for the cat, otherwise they sleep 18 hrs a day. But I do agree is surprising how many people are too moronic to properly socialize a kitten so it behaves correctly.

Pet ownership, specifically dog ownership, is a hobby for retired homeowners.

The fact that you are posting here means you are neither and probably never will be either.

      >retired
Lmao. Any regular family should be able to manage, especially if the Mrs is part time, but decent jobs with humane levels of PTO work too.
Owning a home or at least having a single family living situation is very helpful though.

    >take 2 weeks off work or more to acclimitise dog to a routine, and slowly get the dog used to being left alone
    >start with one hour and you can work your way up to maybe four so long as you don't have a particularly neurotic individual/breed
    >when you return to work, ensure you get a dogsitter for a few hours, or a dog walker, or take them to a trusted relative or a doggy daycare
    >when they're no longer a puppy you can start getting them used to being completely alone for the majority of the day
Is it difficult and expensive? Yes, but it IS possible, you just need to have a plan in place.

The ability to keep animals as pets who provide virtually no utility is a symbol of decadence and wealth reserved for the wealthy who can afford to hire professional caretakers for the pets.
This isn't you, so you shouldn't own pets.

Lol no wonder so many dogs turn out fricked up. People think they can spend 1-2 hours with the animal a day then go off to their wage cage for the rest of the day.

Typical dog owners think its perfectly fine to adopt a G shep, Leave it locked in a crate most of the day except for a short half mile walk around the neighborhood and then can't figure out why their dog is so hyper and keeps barking.

Crates should be banned. Locking an animal in the bare minimum amount of space required for them to shuffle around until they face another direction without even access to water is animal cruelty unless done under duress or for transportation AKA temporarily and with frequent breaks.

Crate “training” is just abusing your dog repeatedly until they stop resisting. If people were doing that to cats they’d be called animal abusers. Full stop.

            >ITS A “TRAINING TOOL”
It is factually impossible to use confinement in the bare minimum space as ANYTHING BUT ABUSE.

You abuse dogs. You would call hitting them a training tool if people were more ignorant. Fricking doggays are worthless

Notice, cat people NEVER do this shit. No wonder your shitmutts bite so many people. Abuse makes animals violent. Always dogs popular with “hard” trainers. Maybe it is the owner after all.

              >Put your dog, an animal who burrows naturally, in a crate AT NIGHT ONLY for an absolute maximum of 8 hours while they're a puppy
              >Have water in the crate, check on them regularly (while they're a puppy)
              >This should no longer be necessary as they grow, though they may choose to go in the crate anyway as it's a safe space for them
Anyone who does anything other than this is abusing their animal, yeah. But this is the proper way to use a crate, and this is not abuse. You're just a pussy and would call a dog whose nails are slightly too long neglected.
Go and work in an animal shelter and refuse ownership to people who have a garden one sqft too small. You'd fit in great there.

My dog actually liked her crate. We seldom locked her in it, tho. It was basically just an indoor dog house. Either I or the missus would simply say "Deeoji! Crate!" and she'd just go to her crate and lay down. If she needed to be locked in for some reason, it was never for longer than an hour or so. She had a tendency to get underfoot from time to time, especially with the excitement of holidays so for her safety and ours, she'd go into the crate while I got the turkey out of the oven or something.

Aside from a pet rock, literally every pet type is filled with mostly people who have no idea of the responsibility or proper care of the animal. Most people can't even keep a fricking pothos plant alive long term.

        >Wauf had a cat meme once, that means you need to love, worship, and respect cats and their owners
newbie we literally mocked cats for looking and acting like morons. the whole point of caturday was that cats are entertaining morons. Typical redditor attitudes towards cats are actually fundamentally opposed to caturday. Redditors unironically believe cats own them, rather than understanding that's a joke about how cats are totally unaware of their situation.

why are you redditors incapable of comprehending a complex thought like this?
        >i am on Wauf now
        >i must hate dogs and love cats because they had... le caturday! that means this is a website for reddit cat people like me
I know on reddit, that cat person means dog hater, but that's not how we operate here.

Here on Wauf, cats are funny, and we have a history of thinking THOSE cat people are fricking losers.

Basically Wauf is the left side of this graph and reddit is the right side of this graph. Think about this long and hard.
