When you have a dog that has had a shit life either through neglect or abuse, we feel bad for that animal and some of us feel like that animal deserves justice for the suffering it was forced to endure because of us
This desire for justice is what motivates a lot of these people to indulge in fantasies about how these dogs will be adopted and given a 'forever home' where they can live the rest of their life in bliss even if they spend years in shitty conditions in shelters
Honestly I think the best thing to do is to just euthanise them all, sometimes justice just cannot be had in this life and even if you take the above scenario as possible which I don't think it is for the majority of these dogs, sometimes they can just be too fricked up to truly thrive

Would there be a large public outcry if all pits/pit mixes in shelters were either euthanized or sold to the Chinese? Yeah it's not their fault they were born, but I feel it's worth the utilitarian risk to prevent overcrowding and further euthanization of breeds that are less harmful to the public.

If you get a dog from a breeder get one from a good one and not a puppy mill. Pet stores only sell puppy mill puppies so those are excluded right away.

I didn't think it'd be the case here (bumfrick nowhere, France) but it's the same deal I previously thought was specific to the US. There's even a pitbull named "Blunt" in the local shelter.
i wouldnt adopt because im not thrilled to buy some traumatized dog that just dies of some random disease that im gonna have to pay for. they want like 200-350 for the animal just so i can own it. why the frick wouldnt i buy one at that point at a breeder with actual information about its genes/health? makes zero sense. if it was free like a street cat id get the gamble at least.

It's unfortunate because you used to be able to adopt good mutts (the best dog I ever had was a Lab/Heeler/Aussie/Poodle mix), but now they've all been infected by pit and chihuahua genes.
I'm with you OP. I'm not adopting some seven-year-old mystery meat dog. I'm paying for a proper puppy, with papers, and I also want to meet the parents. If I'm getting a puppy, I want the best blue ribbon puppy I can get.
