I - and almost everyone else in this thread who isn't taking the piss - instantly clocked it as a badger or wolverine, with the only point of ambiguity between the two being the blurry nature of the photo. How the FUCK did the "wildlife officials" not know?
Thinking about it, it could also be a raccoon dog (raccoon dog, not raccoon). They're highly invasive pest in many parts of the world, i don't know if they're already established their population in the US but if they aren't, they would want to serously investigate any potential incidents before it's too late.
could it be a melanistic badger?
has it ever been recorded before? it's never been recorded in things like pumas, but if a population has been put under a lot of stress and a lot of inbreeding occurs, shit starts to happen.

the tones are all wrong for it to just be the lighting.
that's why initially thought it might be an escaped wolverine. it's clearly brown in tone, and melanism can look pretty brown in some expressions in animals.
House hippo maybe? They sleep like 16 hours a day and are ubiquitous throughout North America

It's Bigfoot.
My first thought was also wolverine.
poor thing's a quadriplegic by the looks of it. just scurrying around on little nubs.
mustelid of unusual size
looks like either a normal sized stoat with small trees or a large stoat with regular trees
Megalodon
Wolverine. Or some other large mustelid, i don't know what species exactly live in Americas.
american badger
this
the markings line up and everything
idk how 'officials' are having trouble with this... I'm not even American and I immediately knew what it was
First thought was badger.
That's my dog, I've been looking everywhere for him.
looks like a wolverine.
dark fur, light spot on neck and chest.
The fact that OP can’t tell it’s a Mustelidae proves that OP IS A gay
skull says bear, body says hippo
op
that's a fucking pygmy hippo
probably escaped from some rich cowboy's ranch
I'm seconding this. Pygmy hippos from what I remember tend to be solitary and nocturnal too.
Pls be trolling samegay, board intelligence can't be dropping that fast
what's your answer?
It’s clearly a mustelid. Ferret or weasel or mink
thanks for trolling, come again
