Why is the dog breeding community the worst?

>try to ask for tips about how to make a new breed of dog that'll live longer than Chihuahuas and weigh 40lbs
>"Sounds like backyard breeding"
>"Why not just work on improving our inbreed breeds anon?"
>"Sounds like Dr. Frankenstein"
>"We have to many breeds already"
>"REEEEE ADOPT DON'T SHOP!"
>"But anon their short lives are what makes them special"
Why is the breeding community like this?

Breeders are psychopaths. You'd have to be to take two closely related animals, usually with health problems, make them breed (often against the female's will), steal their puppies from them, and then repeat the cycle as soon as possible, all for some money. They've monetised animal suffering.

You need to observe traits in order to breed for them, that's easy for things like visual appearance because if the dog conforms to that look you can basically breed as soon as the dog is able. Temperament is similar because you just need to choose to propogate dogs that act the way you want. Athleticism is more complicated because you need competitions in order to figure out which dogs are the most athletic and in order to win will involve lots of training. Health and especially longevity are very hard to breed for as it takes time to see if the dog is actually going to live a long life, and that's the only test of it.

Genetics testing makes it a lot more easier tho, and if you're patient and have people willing to take up the mantle when you're gone, it should be doable.

Do Irish border collies live longer on average? Reason why I ask is because of Bramble and Skippy.

Lmao they're right. We don't need new breeds. We have too many.

I say we simply make a breed we can call our own. A breed nobody else can frick with.
There's really no saving any breed that ribbon humpers and or puppy mills own.

breeding dogs with short lifespans is the same thing as selling electronics which are absolete after 2 years

Breeding for longevity is hard because you need to breed the animal long before it's senior age. And it's not possible how long it will live. It might even be impossible, not all traits can be bred.

by breeding dogs later, dogs that are fertile longer tend to have longer lifespans

it's a way to select for longevity

Shorter lifespans are why we are able to crank out tons of generations and make so many different breeds. Animals with longer lives are harder to modify because we'll be dead before we see any results.

That's good for experiments and stuff. But for companion animals it sucks.

Shorter they live, faster they can sell you a new one.

The current state of dog breeding and the spay neuter religion is insane.

A breed like doberman could never emerge in today's mindset.
Most of the breeds today were inbred to shit (it's called locking in traits by breeders) and would greatly benefit from out crossing.

The spay neuter part, you lose a lot of genetic diversity by sterilising every single pet not "intended for breeding by their original breeder".

      And that's a good thing

Call inbred by any name you like. Hell, call your sister "wife" if you please.

These fricking armchair breeders are why pitbulls exist in the first place and are overflowing shelters.

The OG doberman was basically the same as the OG German shepherd. It's a bad thing we can't get dogs like that anymore.
        >These armchair breeders are the reason pitbulls exist
Literally no. If they where armchair breeders like myself, they would have given the pitbull a name like a lion. A mane would make it harder to actually hurt their neck. These are quite literally backyard breeders.

The bigger issue is the health impacts. Testosterone deficiencies can result in serious issues like brittle bones, but for some reason we pretend dogs are magical mammals that this doesn't apply to.

All the other breeding communities are so mild and tame tho. Literally nobody in the chicken community would give me shit. Infact they'd probably be wishing me luck.
This seems to be a dog specific problem.

        Anonymous

It's dog specific because the way dogs have been bred into myriad forms is unrivaled in Earth's history, with the possible exception of corn. During the 19th century dog breeding really took off and created a vast number of breeds that have extremely questionable long term existence, but if you even approach the subject you get extremists from both sides saying either:
        >BUT WE HAVE TO PRESERVE THE PAGOOGLE, IMAGINE A WORLD WITHOUT THEIR ADORABLE FACE
        >KILL KILL KILL KILL, MUTTS ONLY, PLEASE ADOPT THIS PITBULL INSTEAD
