It takes 14-18 years (insert arguments here) for Humans to fully develop into an adult. Humans don't just mature physically, but mentally and socially.

Our gestation is just a month longer than chimps but that's because our babies are born at an earlier stage in development.

Then technology reached a state where our species essentially became evolutionarily stagnant because technological progress removed the massive amounts of death and time that evolution requires.
