They require a ton of stimuli and attention because they're super intelligent and playful. They get bored extremely easily and will cause ton of problems around your house if they do

So unless you have a big place with a big yard and big family to always take care of them the only alternative is to keep them locked up when you don't feel like watching over them which is exceptionaly cruel, especially considering their intelligence

I adore racoons with autistic fanaticism despite living in Serbia but I'd much rather not have racoons become widespread pets knowing that most normies aren't capable or even willing to offer adequate care for pet fishes let alone bright, high-maintainance animals like racoons

That being said I'd still give my left ball to have a racoon as a pet

My dad knew someone who found one in his garden (this is the UK lol)
Presumably someone else unrelated was keeping it as a pet and it escaped

clearly we need to introduce coyotes to eat the raccoons and cause unknown problems in the future

just introduce gorillas and they will deal with the coyotes, then when winter comes the gorillas will die of cold and the cycle will be restored

I want to own one, but I don't live in the US. How do you get one? Can I ask a relative there to send one?

Befriend some human traffickers and ask them to put some racoons in the shipping container along side the whores

uh, long ago like in the 60's or 70's some cartoon about a boy and his racoon starts airing in japan. the one in this pic

        https://i.imgur.com/p4uKzNc.png

they're little assholes that get into literally everything with their little hands

        to be more precise.
japanese kids love it and soon they all want a raccoon pet and of course pet stores see this as a great chance and import loads of raccoons from the americas,
the last episode of that cartoon is about the boy letting the raccoon go live in the forest because keeping a wild animal as pet is bad and of course kids did the absolute same thing, and thus the american raccoon became a very hard to exterminate invasive specie with no predators that love to nest in old temples and destroy them.

I wonder what do tanukis feel about their North American "cousins"

they lost a lot of their habitat and the population goes in decline also thanks to the american raccoon which became a huge competitor for the same resources.

              >import millions of non native pests
              >have little means of controlling them
              many such cases

Hunters are common in Japan and the posted is accurate, lots of young women are becoming hunters as well. They mostly control deer and boar populations to the point that you can buy venison meat in regular supermarkets. Hunting raccoons is a retard take. Not only they don’t offer much value but also wouldn’t make a dent in their population. Being a small fast reproducing animal means their population can easily bounce back. Also pet legislation can be much harsher than people think. Stuff that is commonly available in US like glofish is illegal in Japan.

So many petcels will never accept this because "le cute"
Also did they ever manage to kill them all?
