Why do we accept trapping cats indoors to never step foot outside because of them hunting as the right thing to do?

Why do we accept trapping cats indoors to never step foot outside because of them hunting as the right thing to do? We replace their instincts to hunt with strings dragged across the floor and trap their outside need of 40 to 150 acres territory the size of to a single house or apartment. It's like getting a working dog to trap it in a kennel all day

I have one indoor/outdoor cat that used to be a prolific hunter (pretty sure she decimated the frog population at a rain water runoff ditch) but has since calmed down as she's gotten older and just enjoys being out in summer weather to explore and sun herself. The other is strictly indoors for being blind and a doofus. I feel bad because she does want outside and is curious but I know the moment she gets spooked by something she'll run/skitter/hop right into traffic.

They're an invasive species in most places they exist.

If they don't have an owner, more often than not, they deserve nothing less than having their heads caved in.

Sad but true. I prefer native birds.

Why does anyone own a house cat? They stop being cute a few months after birth and are just nuisances for the remaining 15 years of their life. House cat owners are the biggest subservient brainlets than any other pet owner.

I had a great pyrenees who certainly did not act like a drooling moron baby. Always calm and even tempered. It just laid there or walked around outside at a brisk pace. Would look happy and wag its tail for food and pets. More than I can say for my girlfriend's cat. Constantly knocking shit off the counter, will meow nonstop to be fed, will dart across the bedroom and fling itself against windows at 2:00am. When it is calm, it lays there with the most head empty expression until it's time to do cat shit. Chill dogs trained at birth do not have this instinctual moron behavior.

Having had 3 dogs and 4 cats in my life, i say dogs are worse than cats
          >Lose much more fur
Cats will get some on your clothes and maybe on your bedsheets but dogfur gets absolutely everywhere. In the tea, in the food, in your nose, in your skin....
          >Smell worse
If you get a decent, covered litterbox and clean it daily it doesn't smell at all. Dogs on the other hand, smell all the time, because they enjoy rolling around in shit, eating said shit etc. Unlike cats you gotta bathe them to get rid of the smell, and that's way more effort than spending two minutes a day to clean up the litterbox
          >Less effort
This is a total meme. Even if your dog has a garden to run and shit in, you still gotta walk it for it's own well-being. Depending on dog's needs, that can take a really big portion of the day. Meanwhile cats, especially if you have more than one at once, will mostly take care of themselves, maybe come sleep on your lap for an hour. I only spend like 30 minutes a day playing with my cats. Much less than i spend walking the dogs. And dogs will beg for more attention even if walked.
          >B-but they become a part of your life
So do cats, just not in a way that requires you to constantly cater to their social needs.

Often of the outdoor cat variety and those cat folks are plagued with superstition and delusional beliefs that they express in as many words as possible to appear credible. When I go down the list of accomplished scientists i see equal amounts of cat and dog owners and many had cats, dogs, and birds at once or in sequence. I wonder why it is that way?

If you don't see a difference between regular outing and walking a dog you either live in a shithole with nothing to do or you take your animal to places that are not animal appropriate. Probably the former since you consider culture to be useless.

I’m not a hypersocial cafe goer who has a meltdown if they go a single day without jabbering about useless shit with a random person, no. Nor is wasting money on random barely-important businesses my idea of a normal day out. I consider your idea of culture to be primitive and the most basic and instinctive form of acquiring dopamine, like a bunch of monkeys making noise for no reason. If you are a shopping addicted small talker that loathes to be on their own land (or worse, loathes to own land) like a woman i recommend you not get a pet at all because even if you had a cat, either your house would be filthy or it would be dead. In fact I observe this situation often when I visit other people… and it is not limited to cat owners.

Imo living life devoid of danger because of the "what if" that free range in the world may, idk, come with a price is a pretty moronic take. It's imagined scenarios that keep a cat owner in fear and causes them to box the animal up inside

Considering how many people only on this board are willing to poison or shoots your vermin if it's on their property, I don't think it's imagined.

Ages ago I kept punishing my dogs for hunting cats, but now I became less caring about someone's vermin and cats on our property are free toys for my huskies.

It's not even this board's larping edgelords, cats die all the fricking time, entirely by accident/nature. Someone was poisoning rats? Secondary and primary poisonings accidentally get the cats. Traffic?dead cat. Coyotes? Dead cat. Owls, hawks, eagles? Dead cat. Yard with a dog? Dead cat. Yard with a bigger cat? Dead cat. Your own yard? The bigger cat will come to you. Seriously. My childhood cat almost died because someone elses bigger cat was going around taking names.

        >bark bark
Cats are absolutely natural for most of the biotopes in which they live. Since they are not far distanted from their original wild form, their impact on the ecosystem is not significant.
At the same time, there is little in dogs that resembles a wolf. This is an absolutely unnatural man-made beast that causes REAL damage to nature (as well as to property and to humans themselves).
Exterminating stray dogs and not touching cats is a perfectly logical and sound policy. So stop barking, buttsniffer, and better educate yourself.

And ironically, he barks more than most dogs.

We, as in civilized countries, trap and has both equally because neither belongs in nature. Neither.

stray dogs only exist as stable populations in shithole places where they have bigger problems.
If there's a stray around here it gets rounded up and either the owner picks it up, it gets adopted out, or eventually put down.
