why do so many people want to breed their pets? its fucking weird to do it just as a hobby. its especially normalized in the reptile community from what ive seen

My family has done it for generations for sentimental purposes, always have a piece of what has left us. Not inbred with their children but bred in-breed so we don't have mutts.
Humans live for 70+ years and most pet animals are lucky to hit 10, keeping a lineage is pretty natural. If you want another dog after yours dies someone's dog has to give birth to it, might as well be yours, and other people want dogs to that have to come from somewhere. As long as you're responsible and keeping the welfare of all the animals in mind there's nothing wrong with it, preventing them from breeding is actually less "normal" compared to their natural state.
the ability to make money!! you can breed your pets and make as much as someone does in working for a year. some litters you can make anywhere from10k-50k a litter thats why people buy. its kinda like a pyramid skeem

retiring next quarter bros
where do you think new pets come from?
It's weird to do it when they're unmarried.
Your pic is what God intended. May they have many hatchlings.
I think it’s crazy considering all the babies that have no home
For dogs, most of them are shitbulls. Just saying.
because keeping your pet an incel is cruel. My lizard was crying out for hot female cloaca for almost a year before i bought him a mate.
It's human nature, Godless heathen.
Scalies are mentally ill weirdos

Depends on the animal. Things that breed passively like a tank of shrimp or things that only live short adult lives like beetles are obviously gonna be bred as the hobby, but for birds/mammals/reptiles money is probably gonna be the main goal
Makes more pets.
Money
you're probably right. using your own pets for profit makes me sad
Making them do the thing nature made them to do isn't exploitation
I JUST SAW IT
