Just went through the same thing a month ago with my 18 year old cat. Didn't post about it on Reddit (or anywhere really) but I get it. Sharing that shit online can be cathartic in the same way writing in a journal or talking about it in person is. Lots of people don't really have anyone to talk to.
Maybe you get the one guy that's like "Hey man sorry to hear that I had to put mine down last year so I totally get blah blah blah" and it feels like you're not quite as alone.
I'll have to put down my cat sometime next week and I can't talk about it without tearing up (not that I have anyone besides my sister either way). Call me a fag or whatever but this guy has been next to for well over a decade and it's pretty much the first pet I ever had.
We put my cat down... almost 20 years ago. Got him when I was six or so and he had to be put down when I was 18. I'm 36 going on 37 now. I can't believe it's been that long. I still think about him regularly. Dream about him from time to time too. Just the other day in fact. Woke up and remembered, "Oh right, Pooky died years ago."
Fucking hell, I can kinda relate since my 13 yo cat most likely has oral scc (has swelling near her jaw, barely eats/drinks). Doctor said to wait a couple of days in case it's just an inflammation from getting hit by another cat but it just seems unlikely. Sorry for the blog, just wanted to get it out of my system, she is (was?) my first pet. And yes, I also get the irony behind me posting about it online
If you are in a grievous moment and your first thought is to capture it on film to share to the world, you have serious issues.
Deeply personal memories should remain just that.
Maybe this person is like a lot of zoomers and doesn't really have any personal connections. He's connected to everyone all the time and he's desperately lonely. It's a dead cat but it's also a cry for help
When my childhood dog was put down because her hips were failing and she was limping I couldn't even go to the car I was crying so much. Love you Sandy and see you in heaven with the salami I was told you shouldn't eat but who cares
If you think it for clout I feel sorry for you and the fact that you don't understand community.
I suppose Wauf is actually perfect for you.
I get the cat dying but clout seeking on Reddit? That’s fucking gay as fuck
While there is obviously the possibility that this is someone with no grief whatsoever trying to farm karma, to assume that is what's happening out of hand and to dismiss the fact that grieving people reach out for support is a sign of some pretty severe misanthropy.
Telling someone else about your grief eases it a little, though. Whenever I've gone through something actually bad I've always felt the need to tell someone the truth of it, "letting it off my chest" in a way, because it helps emotionally somehow. Sharing the load, in a manner. For example, when my dog went missing for a couple of days, I posted about it online in my neighbourhood group (eventually found the dog via a tip got from there actually) and the messages of support and even the anon likes legit made me feel a little better, like I wasn't completely alone in my distress. Logically it's stupid - some anonymous person reacting to my "still no sightings" status update with a heart hugging emoji doesn't really change anything about anything, it's kinda meaningless - but it really did make me feel a little better
Grieve? because they're human. Use that to attention whore on reddit? Because there's estrogen in the water. Bitch about it on Wauf? Because there was lead in the soil around your childhood home and you have permanent brain damage.
dogs can get toxo in the same way humans get it, meaning they can't transmit it unless you fucking eat them. toxoplasmosis is incapable of reproducing outside of the gut of a cat.
maybe you meant toxocara. the only way dogs can pick it up is by eating rotting carcasses. just like the only way cats can get toxoplasmosis is by eating infected animals. interestingly, we put an end to dogs roaming around and eating dead animals because we got tired of the tapeworms. how about we put an end to cats roaming around eating parasite-laden field mice?
Most not retarded Wauf posters who love their cats don't let them go outside.
I think we can both agree that most normalfag dog and cat owners are horrible
The countries with the largest number of cases have relatively tiny populations of pet cats.
Vast majority of toxo infections come from bad sanitation and undercooked meat.
>have relatively tiny populations of pet cats
And massive numbers of outdoor cats
"bad sanitation and uncooked meat"
"be perfect and the cats won't hurt you. never eat medium rare steak again. it's for the cats."
Toxoplasmosis literally can not reproduce unless a cat eats the cysts. Toxoplasmosis can not enter meat or get on veggies or in dirt unless a cat shits out the eggs. Cats are absolutely essential to toxo existing. This costs us 750 human lives in the US each year. Mostly babies and toddlers.
For reference, if you snapped your fingers and pitbulls, german shepherds, rottweilers, all other bully types, and breedless mongrels disappeared, there would have been 35 fatal maulings by dogs from 2005 to 2017. Said elimination would only get rid of 10 million out of the 76 million dogs in the US while preventing 395 deaths. The remaining top two killers, responsible for 22 deaths in 12 years, would be large retrievers and northern breeds, both categories that represent the largest and strongest of the remaining top 5 dogs. This likely represents incidental neglectful/abusive ownership and genetic accidents rather than breed specific characteristics other than sufficient physical power to kill. As we know the risk of being around a horse is greater because they can unintentionally shatter your skull, only due to their size, even if it's not an aggressive horse.
Therefore outdoor cats are the domestic animal that poses the greatest threat to human life, followed by purposefully bred violent dogs and mongrels.
Imagine how many people would die from dog related parasites if dogs ran free without anyone picking up their shit. Probably about 750. Thank fuck we exterminated stray mutts.

dogs officially safer than walking down an empty sidewalk
if outdoor cats are eliminated cats become the safest animal with 0 deaths period so they're totally irrelevant and require no special care

Funny that they lumped all the snowdogs into one category.

they're all the same fucking dog is why. the only ones that are special at all are the akita and karelian bear dog.
Wow TIL that in two more weeks everyone with a cat will turn gay, go blind and die of AIDS!

It's literally true. It's a bacteria that is present in cat and dog saliva at equal rates. It's the exact same bacteria that makes dog and cat bites swell up and get infected, but it usually goes down on its own. If you ever pet a moist, freshly licked cat you were exposed to massive amounts of the bacteria. The majority of humans are perfectly or very immune to it, but once in a while someone with almost no immune system or a streak of immune inferiority gets it. It's very treatable at the outset and if you're immune at worst its a 2-3 day long cold or an infection of a bite wound, but it's so rare for it to spread because almost everyone is perfectly or strongly immune to it and it takes an extraordinarily weak immune system or a bout of severe retardation (letting an animal lick an open, bleeding, oozing sore) to get it from anything but a deep bite wound, doctors lag behind in diagnosis leading to sepsis and full body necrosis.
For some reason, alcoholics are more likely to get severe infections. Certain breeds of dog are more slobbery and have more bacteria in their mouth due to physical deformity and are more likely to transmit it in a bite/lick of an open wound (ie: mastiff-like mutants and shitbulls - dogs anyone with sense already avoids/shoot son sight) but still you need to be pretty fucked to get infected. The rarity is why diagnosis and treatment lag far behind enough for retarded doctors to only diagnosis it AFTER your arms fall off.

in other news indians can kill you by touching you with unwashed hands and toxoplasmosis kills 750 people a year because niggas refuse to do anything about the outdoor cat epidemic (indoor cats do not and can not get/spread toxo). before animal control and leash/fence laws dogs with toxo(cara) were just as bad and that's the entire reason poor people and thirdies still have an aversion to letting dogs inside.
Wauf blows the smallest things out of proportion and ignores any good aspects of "the other side" to get a leg up in this console war. reality is we get more zoonotic diseases from chickens and pigs than we do cats and dogs. 10-40k years of co-evolution will do that to you (as long as you're an aryan white or a northeast asian)

Grief is a concept sociopaths can't realy understand

But it’s reddit
So?

i stopped seeing reddit everywhere when i stopped going on that site. maybe you should stop too

r/cats is way too big to have any sense of community, and redditors have done way more sociopathic shit for upvotes.
