Cats have evolved from African sand cats, one of the most skittish, paranoid, loner animal you could ever imagine, way more than other felines. It doesnt see as much water as there is in that tub in a single place at any point in its life. It doesnt even need too, because cats are literal vampires, they survive on the blood and humidity of what they kill.
Which is also why they are primed to kill everything they can. It's not just eating, its drinking. Basically, whenever you see a cat being fricking weird and dont understand why, ask yourself in what context would it make sense for a sand cat to do the same. 99% of the time it'll give you the answer.

Because sand cats freaks out when going out. They willin average stare at an entrance about 20 minutes before using it, either way, because they have no way of knowing if there isnt something above.

No, sand cats are complete loners and adult ones spends on average 30 minutes per year in company of another one,for mating. The only other social relation they have is for the first 6 months of their lives, with their mom. It's the only registry modern cats have inbuilt to create a shared bond with us.

As explained above. Plus anything a sand cat doesnt kill could attract another, bigger predator, which could then decide to frick him up. Killing everything you come in contact with is just good policy.
They are actually dumb. But not by cat standards. These tiny sand cats have half as many neurons in their cortex as a very small dog (1/4 of a german shepherd). But, only half as many as a lion as well, which for being way less than half a lions size, bodes well for how smart they are compared to other felines. Just not raccoons, dogs, or weasels.
No I agree, you definitely cant argue cats are gifted on the cerebral side. But their attachment to us and the form it takes doesnt result from them being dumb. Rather its dumb to expect the antithesis of a pack animal to display the same type of social behaviours as a pack animal.

If they are washed when they are very young kittens they tend to not fear water as much or at all. A friend's kitten, now close to 5mo loves water, likes to splash in it, dip its paws in the bowl and lick the water off its fur, dive in the bathtub etc.
Smash the cat into the bathtub and it stops struggling for a few minutes
What if it doesn't start struggling again how do I restart it

Because toxoplasmosis fears cleanliness so it drives the host to avoid such behaviours, that would difficult the transmission to the other host (the cat owner).
