It's a dumb question with an obvious answer.
If the animals are roughly the same size, the bear. If they are at their average or maximum size, the croc.
For a more elaborate answer, if the croc is on land, it can be up to 1.5 the weight of the bear, otherwise it still goes to the croc.
All the furries who link to jaguars hunting soicrocs or Tigers hunting salties don't like to draw your attention to the fact that the cats are as big or bigger than their prey.
a 2000 pound salty is too tough for a grizzly to kill, at best it would annoy it and give up through exhaustion or annoyance, at worst the salty gets a hold of its paws or legs and tears it off.
That anyone in their right mind could think that a large 300-350kg grizzly could ever hope to kill a 1 000kg or more salty is hillarious to me.

a crocodile is ultimately a reptile, and as such, does not have the stamina for prolonged conflict like a bear does.
in a fight on land, even the largest saltwater croc loses to a bear or tiger.

Lots of things, including largest brown bears like kodiaks, who are similar in size but are a lot more active. Aside from the obvious elephant/rhino/hippo - an elephant seal beach master could crush a polar bear like a toy.

Bear unless it's something like the largest salty vs a younger bear.
    >1 foot of water doesnt really help the croc nor slow down the bear
    >crocs can be stronger and larger but their entire tactic is snap down, drag into deeper water and drown/death roll compared to the bear with frickhuge claws and teeth and enough brute force behind em to do damage
    >defense wise croc skin is tough but not impenetrable plus soft portions on the sides/underside compared to a bears which is thick fur on top of thick skin, fat, and muscle
Only option for the croc is latching onto the face before it knows it's there and attempting to drown it but that still runs the risk of being snatched out of the water or the bear charging stomping and swiping full bore.

don't crocks have horrendous response times unless they are ambushing? this one doesn't even try to move once

  6. 1 year ago

Bear wins. The croc wants to latch on and drag its victim into the deeper water for a death roll. In 1 foot deep water, he's no place to go. He's latched onto something several times his size with longer, stronger arms and big fricking teeth. Wounded grizzly, dead croc.

But a big saltie is about triple the weight of a big grizzly. Even a big kodiak bear's only about half the weight of a big saltie.

Crocodiles rarely need to fight their prey, they are designed for a 1-hit ko from a hiding position.
In a water stream that small the croc just can't hide, making the first bite that much more risky, so I'm giving this one to the bear, since they are more suited for the kind of "hand-to-hand" combat that is supposed to happen here.

I'vee seen videos of jaguars kill crocodiles in south america.
They just jump on their back and bite the neck until they die.
    A jag is 200lb.
    A kodiak grizzly is 1500.
Still have doubts that any creature on this earth could kill a fullly grown saltwater croc except a hippo or an elephant.

Have you seen how easily big cats frick up crocodiles? It's not even close.
1 foot deep water will barely slow down the bear. A grizzly could probably kill 5 or more back to back.

A large male saltwater crocodile can weigh almost 3,000 pounds. Male grizzlies can weigh at max almost 800. 1 foot of water isn't going to make much of a difference for the croc but I can't see the bear winning. A Kodiak bear would have a better shot, they max out at a little over half the weight of a big saltie (1500 lbs).

Which ones? Lions sometimes bully small Nile crocodiles...on land. Jaguars eat the little sub 10 foot caiman down in south America. Occasionally a tiger will get a small/medium saltie or mugger but salties have been recorded getting tigers too.

kodiaks aren't even the largest type of brown bear.
there's just a regular brown bear from around the western coast of canada that gets to be the biggest of them all, and californian brown bears were bigger than kodiaks before the subspecies became extinct.

Seems like Kodiak's on average are larger, but the Alaskan brown bear can grow just as big at the upper end.

Peninsular brown bears are slightly smaller than Kodiaks on average and on record. Part of the reason they’re big is because they’re so closely related to koadiaks

Salt water breaks the grizzlies arm/leg, then quickly gets its throat ripped out. So grizzly loses a limb but inevitably wins.
