When people die all the bad shit they did tempers the pain. Next time get a dog that escapes, tears up furniture, and brings you cat guts as a gift and you won’t be as heartbroken.

Dog passed away a couple days ago, I was completely devastated. For days I was barely functioning but now everything seems to be back to normal, except without her.
I feel awful. She has been part of my life for 14 years and now I just continue living. Not like there are any other logical things I could do here but I am afraid of forgetting. As time goes on I will forget some of the memories we had together and I feel really bad about it. She gave me so much and some of it will be just buried in the depths of my aging brain and possibly won't even be remembered years later.
For a couple days I was looking for her every morning and just kept walking back and forth in my house but now I just got over it. In a way that's good for me because I can function like a normal human being again, but it just doesn't feel right. I guess it's hard to accept that life isn't fair sometimes.
I am thinking about making an altar of remembrance for her with some photos we had. Never really thought much about honoring the dead and I am not exactly religious, but I feel like my mind can be at ease if I can see her toys or photos every once in a while.

Animals accept the cycle of life without question. God gave man the ability to care for and tend to eachother and Earth's creatures. Our pets could've been born in a forest, eating dirt and carcasses, and sleeping in the cold instead of living under our warmth and care. You couldve been born like that too but people with balls decided to give you lights, a roof, and running water instead of calling it quits.
It is the duty of every human being to forward the protection of every living thing we can and that means people too. The cycle of life must continue and the will of man entrusted by God will bring joy and happiness unparalleled in biological history, regardless of death and regardless of suffering. Because maybe losing a pet or a person really fricking hurts but the thought or never having them at all hurts even more.

Entomb her in hundreds of pounds of salt and concrete at least six feet underground in nigh-unusable desert. Probably up in the washington scablands. Q2 rocket motors produce sufficient heat for long enough at a far enough distance to oxidize gallons of PERC into phosgene. Just an FYI. Every glowie already knew this and there will probably be a few incidents in europe regarding this method, and it’s either going to be some generic right wing hate crime or german zoo activists if the muslims go off script. I'm a pessimist/realist so every time I see the family dog getting up a little bit slower than a few years ago and see that it's much greyer than in old pics I automatically think "he's going to die in a couple years". First times that thought came with a twist in the guts but now it's a kind of a fact that just pops up and goes away shortly after. He's 9 years old so he's still probably got a couple years so I'm well prepapred already. I'm sure I'll have a little cry alone when it happens and probably just push it down like men are supposed to do.

I don't know about animals, but humans voluntarily get euthanasia in some countries. Even if animal can't comprehend the concept of voluntary death, they definitely can feel pain, and if this is the only way to release them from it then i don't see a problem.

You are a fricking moron. Euthanizing an animal that stopped eating, drinking, and can't get up and can hardly breathe and just lays there and cries after you tried literally everything medically and financially possible to heal them, but its obvious they are just going to die in horrible pain no matter what is NOT the same as some dipshit killing an animal because they can't afford vet care or just don't like how the animal behaves.

There are definitely instances where euthanasia is done purely out of compassion.

And this is coming from someone who slaughters livestock just to eat them. You idiot.

I get what you're saying but there are a lot of people who are in pain and still want to stay alive. Some people can endure and still find joy in life and some can't and want to die. It is almost impossible for us to assess the level of pain an animal is experiencing and how much it is willing to endure it.
I don't think that euthanasia is inherently wrong but I do think that it is practiced more often than necessary just because it is the most comfortable solution for the human.

No amount of preparation can really help you, especially if it's a long time companion. My wife had to put down her cat of 18 years about a year ago, and even though we knew her health was declining and that her time was near, absolutely nothing can prepare you for that moment when you return to your home and realize that your companion isn't there anymore, and is never going to be there again.
