Today. At my work there's a bunch that come in regularly from the fields. Like, theyre so big that cats get scared of them. The size of a fricking 2 Liter bottle. We've found them attempting to drag people's lunches out the door, I've spooked one that was rummaging through my coworkers Costco bag, and we once shut the door as one tried to escape through the hinge side of the door, it got its head snapped. The thing was massive. When it rains out, they get more daring and will run across the floor when we are in the break room.

A few months ago I went on a midnight run to a Wendy's and ended up sitting in the parking lot for a while watching the rats fight

Forgot to add it was in front of the dumpster. Not sure if they were fighting over the food or trying to claim territory or something.

Don't live in a city so I don't see large ass wild rats. Think I have only ever seen one or two in my lifetime tbh.
Mice I see from time to time outside.
The main rodents I interact with are squirrels and chipmunks, and they fill me with so much joy. Especially chipmunks and red squirrels.

the trash bins at the dorm i used to live in until two months ago had developed a small rat civilization that survived everything they threw at it, it was disgusting but i miss seeing the rats

When I lived in New York city I once slipped on a rat. It somehow kept running even as I put my weight on it.

I live in Brooklyn and this is basically my favorite part.
    >guaranteed ~half dozen rat encounters any given nighttime walk
    >rat family lives at the playground near my house and comes out to eat the garbage at dusk
I've considered making an instagram about this rat family (one male and two females) because they are so cute and the city is actively trying to murder them
    >tree two trees down from my door is infested with rats, city keeps trying to put metal mesh over it, they keep getting in
The root system of this tree has to be something like the Tora Bora bunker complex but for rats
    >every time I take the train

It is seriously life-fueling. I was not expecting this at all but it is so, so nice. Pigeons also sometimes fall asleep on my windowsill right next to my own bed, so I'll wake up to sleeping pigeon buds, but thinking about it now I honestly wish I lived in a basement apartment so I could have window rats instead.

You don't want rats living anywhere near you, you absolute moron. They carry and spread tons of diseases and parasites, many of them serious.
Rat mites will also seek out humans and attempt to parasitize you. Their bites are similar to flea bites and are extremely unpleasant. The mites are too small to be visible unless your face is right next to them. If one finds you, they create a pheromone trail that attracts a ton of others (similar to bedbugs, or ants) leading to an infestation of your furniture along with the surrounding room/residence.

you sound like you need to go outside more, maybe get (gasp) bit by a few bugs or something, get sick and take some antibiotics, live a little.

so where do you find it acceptable to live exactly? only exquisitely manicured suburbs where there is zero local wildlife? If you think there are too many critters in cities I have something bad to tell you about country life, anon...

I have never seen a rat in my 29 years. A handful of mice but not rats. I'm always told they're bigger than you think.

i've only seen mice once when I was 7
my parents were cleaning the attic and found a mouse nest in an old box
they showed me the baby mice inside and I remember thinking they looked like hotdogs
then my mom took them out and left them on the curb and a few days later some other things in the attic were broken, which they told me was because the rat parents were angry (i don't know if that's really what happened though)

Tend to get them in my house every winter (it's a very old house and they eat holes through the floorboards), but the last time I saw one was earlier this year when it was pissing it down with rain so much all the drains were overflowing with water onto the road. Was walking down the street, looked over and this massive fricker was running along just off the pavement next to me.

Last year, caught in a rat trap. Poor guy was still alive. I use them for chipmunks to keep them out of my crawlspace. It's the only rat I've ever seen out here in the country.

I saw one climbing down a tree in the forest last month. Rats are known to climb trees and eat bird eggs/nestlings here.
