What do you define as a monster? Just a giant animal? If so, why not just say giant animal? There are no shortage of giant animals in the oceans; whales and sharks and giant squid.

      Giant scary animal.

A series of massive crustaceans that live under the tectonic plates. They receive energy from absorbing the heat of the earth's core because they're cold blooded.
They eat the minerals in the earth's crust so when they eat too much of one side and it falls the plates move.

What if a MEGALADON is LIVING IN THE MARIANA TRENCH
The Mariana Trench is the deepest part of the ocean a large cavern / ravine big enough to fit a Megaladon and help it avoid detection.
Some ""schoalars"" might say that even if a Megaladon lived in the Mariana Trench it would die from having no food source.. but what if it did? What if the Megaladon are eating eachother? That's right a cannibalistic shark that eats eachother constantly to survive.
This could solve that pesky ""scholarly" idea of Megaladon having no food to eat.
So do Megaladon still live in the ocean?

idk how feasible this would be but instead of being carnivorous and eating other creatures is there some other way a giant sea monster could get energy? like from the movement of tectonic plates or something idfk

It'd need a shitload of hydrothermic vents

It would have to have some bullshit photosynthesis crustacean that sucks the minerals out of sea floor volcanos.

thats not how that works, what those animals down there are eating are bacteria that are eating the toxins that are down there and in case you didnt notice theres not a lot of big things down there, because thats a really shitty way to live and its also a shitty place to live, because the water is boiling hot and the water pressure is massive. so living in a place that extremely hostile and has basically no resources being injected into the system unless a whale dies, it is impossible for something large to be down there, because if it was a haven for large creature and this bacterial feasting was viable, we wouldve seen them already or evidence of their existence among the sea floor by the absence of smaller creatures that would be around these vents

Counter Argument: Giant and Colossal Squids.

There are literally single digit reported cases of a live Giant Squid and literally no case of a colossal squid being alive. Those creatures I mentioned are the largest invertebrates that have ever existed in this planet, and we know they are not endangered because they make up a large portion sperm whale diet. Yet, we barely see literally one alive in the depths they are supposed to live in.

        >There are literally single digit reported cases of a live Giant Squid and literally no case of a colossal squid being alive.
and yet we know about them
so how would we not know about this hypothetical sea monster

          >so how would we not know about this hypothetical sea monster

Why would we know about this hypothetical monster if one has never washed up or been found in the stomach of a whale? What if that had never happened with the squids either? Would they just cease to exist at that point?
Does reality re-shuffle itself to match what we do or do not know in your worldview?

one would have washed up, that's my point
