What even is the big deal of cherry blossom trees?

I mean, I love Japan regardless what the meme says, but it's not that impressive; I find trees with white blossoms cooler.

Blue blossoms would especially be nice.

They don't stand out so much in Brazil because everything is colourful there.

It looks nice but the bright pink isn't to my taste as much as the subtler paler tones such as apple blossom.

It is not just the looks but also what it represents. Sakura represents renewal and optimism, they mark the end of winter and begin of spring. It doesn't means much for Brazilians since everything looks more or less the same all year but for the Japanese sakuras are the return of life and colors after a grey or white winter. I'm Brazilian living in Japan btw.

They stand in the capital as a reminder that Japan should have been our greatest ally, and are in the good timeline.

i used to live in a town where every street had a different colour of ipe. each would blossom at slightly different weeks in winter/spring, and the pavement would be covered by flowery colors in yellow, white, and pink after a few days.
    it was beautiful

As a Brazilian I can confirm, they will likely just take you for a trip and make you get all the money out of your bank account then leave you in a far away place.

Rio de Janeiro is a meme by the way.
São Paulo has nowhere near as many cool sights, but it has every cuisine you might want available, and there are some cool places such as the Japanese/Asian neighborhood

Do we really have to go to Japan to see the cherry blossoms? What makes J-sakura different from the ones in DC or Paris or even China? Well, I mean the trees themselves, aside from authenticy and the less likely chance of being robbed or assaulted.

Different varieties bloom at different times, amounts, sizes, durability, and longevity. Weather also plays a huge role; one storm, frost, or even a simple rain shower at the wrong time and you just don’t get to see blossoms that year. Unfortunately, they also do need to have a cold enough winter to even try to bloom.

but in what way is j-sakura the best in terms of location?

Just more of them around. That, all the different types allowing for the longest possible length of peak bloom time in theory, and the weather usually isn’t as schizo so you actually have a good chance of enjoying them there. Nothing wrong with going to Paris or NY instead, just a greater likelihood you may have to cancel the trip at the last minute because there’s nothin left to see.

I've told my friends before that the Ipe trees are Brazil's cherry blossom only better, good to see I wasn't the only one to think that.
They are so fricking vibrant, it's really cool.

I always thought it was because you’ll have little gentle flurries of large petals carried around on a breeze as they gradually fall off, like being inside a scenic snowglobe. Plus, they don’t smell overwhelming or gross.
A lot of other species will retain their shriveled up petals, or drop them quickly all at once, or they just have a foul smell that travels for miles.

It’s not really a blossom, but crepe myrtles have that whimsical rain of delicate natural confetti in a variety of colors.
