        Which one are you lmao

Maybe because it's a garbage idea?

It's not like we just discovered bears. If it was worth the trouble to domesticate them we would have done so by now, or at least be well into the process.
I suspect it's because bear tastes like shit most of the time to most people.

        >If it was worth the trouble to domesticate them we would have done so by now,
do you realize how moronic you sound when you say this?
        >I suspect it's because bear tastes like shit most of the time to most people.
Except when it DOES taste delightful (as can be attested easily, you can look it up on youtube if you want...) and therefore there's an opportunity that modern tech can help us achieve something that was either unknown or impossible to older generations (due to lack of knowledge of blueberry bears, due to risk of hunting before modern firearms, due to it only being palatable in US black bears, etc...)

The problem is the moment you domesticate them they'll all be eating corn.

Nah, due to their small yields you'd definitely end up with higher prices and more niche preparations, and you'd have to go about it like

Cows only shoot out one baby at a time and their gestation period is similar to humans. Bears having 2 is already a benefit. We could select for higher litters, and more docile animals to continue breeding until you can keep a dozen or so in a single field.
Their diet would be tricky though, you'd have to provide a lot of fresh berries and bugs and stuff for them to eat.

said. Berries themselves are actually very reasonable to produce en masse, and mixing it with other sources of food like mushrooms and, yes, grains (high quality ones preferably) would easily feed even a herd of hungry bears. Beyond that, the notion of having bear meat at all is worth the risk of some lower quality bear producers.

    Nice idea.

    I don't eat animals.

They’re too human-like. Do not eat that which is like yourself.

Same reason eating pork damns your soul and sends you to hell.

      >humans are like gluttonous animals who only devote brainpower toward the direction of the nearest food
I guess it's an apt description for Americans, anyway.

I imagine it'd be really hard to farm them. Only reproduce 2, takes years to mature, would need specially designed to house them, aren't super social, would eat a literal ton.

But imagine the meat if you butcher them right as they enter hibernation.

I think it's a perfect comparison for the specialty meats then. Plus, bears are incidentally social, so it might not be that hard to have a higher density of them. I just worry that it will take a long time to domesticate for the same reasons you listed.

But boy oh boy will it be delicious.

Supposedly they’re difficult to butcher properly without accidentally making the meat taste and smell bad. Sorta like how rupturing the preen glands near a chicken’s tail will foul up and ruin the meat’s flavor.

No? We fill bear tags every year, only difference between them and other animals is the size. Bear tastes great by the way.

I mean really think about it, they're not that different from wild hogs of europe. "Oh they're too dangerous!!" so were wolves and hogs. Let's do it.
