I found some wasps flying around my house earlier this week, likely next years queens. I collected them and released them outdoors, hopefully they come back in the spring.

I'll add, one hit my ceiling, fell on my arm, and proceeded to sting my hand. Can't blame her though, it was afraid and didnt understand i had no intention of harming her. Unfortunately she died shortly after but at least her friends will carry on her nests legacy. Some of her friends in picrel

only shit people get stung by wasps. They actually do society a favor because they only go after criminals and degenerates. No innocent person has ever been stung by a wasp.

Wasps keep getting lost in coke bottles around me. I release them, sometimes with a fair bit of shaking. Not a single sting. I don't know whether they recognise that I saved their asses, but I'm not even trying to move carefully with a dozen wasps around me trying to get a sugary sip. Nothing.
Also not a single fly or mosquito around. b***hes know better than to frick with my wasp bros.

Fricking yellow jackets are buttholes who can't find their own fricking business. Every fricking summer those fricks have to bother me when I'm trying to relax outside on my deck.
I don't play games with them anymore. They buzz me while I'm relaxing, they die by paddle

On the other hand the bees are bros. They just enjoy the flower pots on the deck and leave me in peace. Even when one is curious about me it just flies around me for a minute before leaving instead of persisting in my space the whole fricking time I'm trying to relax

The majority of wasps in the world are tiny, solitary, and look like this. You're unlikely to even notice one, much less be stung. The only wasps that have ever been dicks to me are Polistes carolina. The rest are chill.

I get the tiny ichneumon wasps that try to land on my computer screen when it's dark all the time, it's really fricking annoying
Most people would probably just see them as 'a bug' because they're so small though, you have to really squint to see the wasp features.

Same here. I've been around tons of wasps, including other social wasps that have a reputation for aggressive/territorial behavior like yellow jackets, but that one particular species is the only one that has ever bothered me. Most people I know that hate wasps do so entirely because of experiences with P. carolina.

I have been catching (gently) and petting bumble bees for years because all that time I thought that bumble bees don't sting. I have never been stung by one but once some anon told he got stung by bumblebee and I started arguing and calling him a liar etc then I look it up online yes true enough bumble bees can sting and apparently it might be more painful than a honey bee sting.

Polistes Carolina, Polistes Apachus, the entire Polistinae subfamily are some of the most hateful things to ever live.

Pompilidae are only guilty of looking like them.

Sphecidae are a little annoying and they smell.

Most of the solitary mfs are chill and don't even know you exist.
It's the communal assed paper mfs that got Born one day and Were violence.

I have been stung as many times by wasps as I have been by bees.
The whole "wasp sting for no reason while bees stings only in self-defense" is nonsense pushed by the popular narrative that bees=honey=good that wants you to believe bullshit like how land life will disappear if bees were gone.

      FRICK that homosexualry, btw.
Apis Mellifera is an invasive species responsible for dozens of extinctions outside of Europe/Near East/North Africa. Through sheer numbers, it crowds out native pollinators, while at the same time being terrible at pollinating (because they're generalists, a lot of the time the pollen they collect lands on different plant species).
There's trillions of the frickers around, and yet people whine about Muh Bees while cheerfully cutting down their lawns and trampling on the nests of solitary, native bees that the majority of plants in their neighbourhood desperately rely on.
morons who believe they'll 'Starve to death' if the honeybee disappears, nevermind much of the world doing just fine without them until the 16th to 19th century and our staple crops using wind pollination.
And then these fricking homosexuals don't even fricking EAT the fricking honey their out of control bioweapon is producing.
I want Vespa mandarina to kill them all.

During Summer Wasps are hunting for protein. They feed this to the larva in exchange for a sugary substance that the wasps can digest. This substance contains an enzyme required for wasp digestion.
The Queen during Autumn will abandon her hive in order to hibernate. In the following weeks the last generation of larva will mature into adults. There are no new larva to feed and so the now adult wasps have no access to the sugary enzyme they require for food. The wasps will then begin desperately searching for sugary substances to feed on, unfortunately there is no way of them gaining access to the enzyme..... They are eating and eating, but starving to death.

So yeah.... they get a bit trigger happy around Autumn.

Can we make it artificially or a version of it that wasps can digest? We could then feed the wasps all year round (including winter in warmer climates)

        Anonymous

Why would we want to? They're practically the queens inferior sterile clones. Their function is to maintain the colony and produce a constant stream of food so that the Queen can produce a new generation of Queens, along with the males needed to inseminate the Queens of other colonies. It's a brutally efficient system.

Bees use a similar system but maintain a food store so that the last generation can survive over winter in order to have a work force to more rapidly build back up to strength. They still kick all the males out of the colony in autumn to starve/freeze to death.

I am now convinced that wasps can read your mind through their sense of smell. Always hearing of haters getting stung, meanwhile I am allowed to free-handle them. Would not surprise me to hear that cats and dogs also detect human emotions by how our body smells depending on mood

This summer hornets made a nest right next to my pond and I've been sitting close to it everyday, yet I never got stung by them in my life.

More likeable than those who get stung then.
I don't belive that's the case, nor I believe that wasps can understand human feelings or that they attack indiscriminately.
What is most likely to be the case is that most people walk in nature in a clumsy and unaware way without paying attention to the life that surrounds them. They constantly step on animals or force them to become defensive.
Wasps simply have an effective way to defend themselves from those bumbling idiots, so they use it.
