Be a large amount. Turns out beef is full of stuff good for us, from cholesterol than is very good for hormones to very easy to difest and absorb nutrient, be it broteins and fats or trace minerals, specially liver and organ stuff. Insects are a good feed for chicken, fish or pigs tough. In terms of nutrition Fish and seafood mogs insects and that's why we should try to not fricking poison the literal producer of nearly infinite food than is the ocean wtih micro plastics and heavy metals. Dump them in bangladesh or some other shithole. You can make plastic like substances out of seaweed too so if our "elites" did indeed want to save the planet they wouldn't have invaded iraq and instead they would have gone full on making giant seaweed farms.

Agriculture is already 100% reliant on artificial fertilizer. People who do meme farming without it are driving up the cost of food on a planet without enough of it for the population.
Also insects require less land, water and feed than cows by a lot. Like I said earlier though, so does chicken. A pivot to more chicken could accomplish the same short term stop gap which bugs would. However the only long term solution is to keep the population of humanity on Earth below 4 billion.

why should we eat worse food so we can have more people? population is the single worst thing for crime, education, global peace, and the environment. the earth can support more people if we completely destroy human rights and force most people down to an "uplifted bronze age" state like poor brazilians who are allowed to ride rudimentary motor scooters and get 5 hours of electricity and running water a die, yes, but why would you want to?

OH RIGHT. ponzi scheme economy crashes without exponentially more greater fools to pay in to the top gay's bags. the world would be destroyed if corporate profits and welfare were crippled and it would totally be worse than an overpopulated earth even though the economy is based on things without real value.

Realistically it just would make no sense. Bugs eat a horrendous amount of resources relative to their mass. This feels more like rich people pulling our legs "And then I told them we would make the eat bugs HAHAHAHA! And ze believed it! Ze are probably still shrieking about it!"

Insects actually use less resources per available calorie from consumption than beef or chicken, though I wouldn't eat them for that. Chicken is pretty efficient already so just getting 50% of beef consumption replaced with it would make a huge impact.

            >Insects actually use less resources per available calorie from consumption than beef or chicken
That actually makes literally no sense. Insects are subject to the laws of physics too. A single grasshopper might need proportionally less calories than domesticated vertebrates, but in return you need like thousands of them to reach the same mass of meat for human consumption.

But mass =/= nutritional value. So you'd need even more of them than beef or chicken of the same quantity.

Also eating insects is disgusting and I will not stand for it.

Probably because the ocean is so full of microplastics, I honestly cringe pretty hard at eating anything from it. You might as well eat your bank card directly.

But I would support seaweed, it's a pretty cool concept. It's a shame I've only seen it used in Japanese cuisine.

              >A single grasshopper might need proportionally less calories than domesticated vertebrates, but in return you need like thousands of them to reach the same mass of meat for human consumption.
And a chicken is made of a trillion cells so therefore it must take a nuclear reactor to run one, right? The quantity does not matter. If an insect expends less energy to exist and house compared to their equivalent caloric quantity of chicken then it's more efficient. This is how chicken can be way more efficient than beef. They put a lot more of their input energy into making meat.
              >eating insects is disgusting
It's like eating any seafood other than fish. Your revulsion is purely cultural, since insects have historically not been a good, farmable source of food. I'm skeptical that the numbers actually work out, but if they do then a company will profit from doing it and you will eat the bugs or you will spend more money on food than everyone else. Welcome to capitalism and its consequences.

I would not trust such a process. We put too many durable compounds in our waste streams, such that they remain in the environment for years. An insect isn't going to decompose a lot of it.

Those people aren't eating any supermarket food at all. They will eat beef and chicken raised on small farms out in the middle of nowhere, using frequently tested water and feed. And yes they will eat the bugs (for signalling purposes), but not the ones for proles. Their bugs will be similarly cultivated using known pure stock.

                >It's like eating any seafood other than fish.
Well I'm from a landlocked country, so we don't really eat fish either. Or seafood. Honestly, fish stink to high heavens, before, during and after cooking. I don't know why anyone would wanna eat them.
I mean don't get me wrong, I love fish. Have an aquarium of 54 liters. But I prefer them as pets. Not..food.

                >Your revulsion is purely cultural
Respectfully I disagree. All our lives we encounter an animal group of which 95% are pests and just make life miserable for everyone? Flies, mosquitos, eusocial wasps, lice, bedbugs, moths, locusts, various bugs and insects that ruin crops? (I intentionally left out spiders as they're mostly beneficial, but one of the most common phobias is arachnophobia, and it's probably genetic)
And on top of that they're the furthest from us from an evolutionary perspective too, they look alien and disgusting. The revulsion is pretty understandable if you look at it this way.
It's why entomologists had been ostracized and viewed as abnormal in history. That and their tendency to creepily pin disgusting things onto displays.
In my language we sometimes call others crazy by saying they're "concerned with bugs" (roughly translated)

That's why forcing this eating insects thing is so wrong. For example, hopefully you wouldn't tell an Italian to abandon their cultural heritage and history, and start being more like the English, and not only because it's culturally insensitive or downright fricking racist, but because England itself is despicable.

But yeah, I've heard a theory that apparently we're too bony and lean to be worth preyed upon, so shark bites are usually accidents.
I think it might just be shark apologist propaganda, cause hominoids had plenty of predators in history, before humans slowly, but surely eradicated them from existence. It's why I think letting bears, wolves and such back into areas where they've been extinct for hundreds of years is a bad idea.
Most of Europe is safe, precisely because they were BTFO'd, along with any cave hyenas, lions and other varmint that deserved our ancestors contempt.

Look at this map, it shows the official recorded wolf attacks in France. If they were preying on livestock and domesticated animals that would be bad enough on its own, but they were attacking children and people. They even had to have an official branch of government that dealt with their extermination.

The reason he said your revulsion is cultural is because there exist cultures which eat insects as part of their normal diet. If another culture does something which you find gross or reprehensive, chances are your disgust is cultural. Yes, this includes shit like eating the dead and circumcising babies. Just because we can justify why it's objectively bad now to do those things doesn't mean our revulsion toward those things was always 100% rational. And of course there are things that we hate irrationally just because of our cultural associations (e.g. eat da bug? no no no no bug gross!!! icky!!!!!)

              Ffs.

Some animals create protein laden meat with fewer calories than others do. Sometimes dramatically less.

The difference in calories necessary to grow a warmblooded animal vs a coldblooded one is already about an order of magnitude. That alone can more than explain why insects outperform cows or pigs or even chickens.

Beef yes, but the feed to conversion ratio of chicken is the same to crickets. This is well studied, it takes the same amount of calories to get a pound of chicken as it does a pound of crickets.

Its 2.1. Two pounds of feed gets you 1 pound of chicken.

except you cant grow chickens in a warehouse shelf, you have to have a lot of room because of animal rights or some garbage, crickets can be grown vertically, which is the only real benefit

Not one, because then people wouldn't fight over anything. And you have to hate the thing you already do rather than doing two things. Get it?

the present culture is pushing for food to save the planet (eat the insect bigot) so the true hostility and destruction is pushing for more meat and more seafood.

Bingo. Not just that but they seek the humiliation that comes with it. They'll be in their nice mansions with private security (after pushing for gun control, of course) eating their filet mignon while you're eating grasshoppers with a glass of wienerroach milk. Lol at the size of your average Indochinese male and tell me if you still want to eat bugs.

People in power tend to be psychopaths and also freaks in general because those very positions of power mostly attract those kinds of people.

            >Why not farm columns of mollusks and seaweed? Why push for insects?
Its not about what is most efficient or what is most nutritious. Its about putting the "peasants" in their place. Its about the humiliation and degredation of the masses to a point that they start to wonder if life is even worth living. Then at that point they will stop having children and its a soft genocide. They want to get rid of us, but they dont want to just go full on death camps. If they were putting people into camps there would be resistance. This way people just choose to not give birth to the next generation, and slowly the die off of the "useless eaters" is achieved.

          [...]
          >Why not farm columns of mollusks and seaweed?
Probably because the ocean is so full of microplastics, I honestly cringe pretty hard at eating anything from it. You might as well eat your bank card directly.

But I would support seaweed, it's a pretty cool concept. It's a shame I've only seen it used in Japanese cuisine.

          > you need like thousands of them to reach the same mass of meat for human consumption
          >But mass =/= nutritional value. So you'd need even more of them than beef or chicken of the same quantity.
          You're wrong.
Ackually people would need to eat less insects to get the same nutritional value as 1 pound of meat.

            >96 calories for the same amount of protein
This is not a good thing. We evolved to eat a diet that's mostly fruit, nuts, and tubers supplemented with occasional meat.

              Anonymous

That's what he said. You don't need to eat much insect for the same animal protein. So the rest of your diet would be the same fruits, nuts and tubers.
And really the insects would mostly be processed into something which is nothing like an insect. Imagine the reverse happening. A society full of insect eaters and they find out some people eat cows. They say "ewww gross, you mean like they crunch on hooves and faces? Imagine all the fur, bleh".

why should we eat worse food so we can have more people? population is the single worst thing for crime, education, global peace, and the environment. the earth can support more people if we completely destroy human rights and force most people down to an "uplifted bronze age" state like poor brazilians who are allowed to ride rudimentary motor scooters and get 5 hours of electricity and running water a die, yes, but why would you want to?

OH RIGHT. ponzi scheme economy crashes without exponentially more greater fools to pay in to the top gay's bags. the world would be destroyed if corporate profits and welfare were crippled and it would totally be worse than an overpopulated earth even though the economy is based on things without real value.

You have insight, but I doubt the trajectory will change even if everyone knows the end game.

Because insects aren't actually good sources of protein or any of the other nutrients meat provides, and an aversion to bugs is likely natural and only overcome via desperation, cultural pressures following a period of desperation, and being part of a demographic which has a generally reduced disgust response owing to a small and less active amygdala.

Fruit is a manmade product created by centuries of selective breeding. It’s also seasonal, no one evolved to eat mostly fruit.

Fruit existed before man, just smaller and seedier.

Fruits are also low in calories and the ever important fatty acids your body needs, as well as many vitamins and amino acids only found in fish, eggs, and meat.

              It's real.
The figure includes all the water consumed in the irrigation of crops used for feed, which accounts for the majority of it. Cows are stupidly inefficient at turning feed into meat.

You absolute dumb frick I told you it's the irrigation water. When you eat a head of lettuce you're consuming like 40L of water because that's what you have to irrigate with using traditional methods. Hydroponics can get you down to 4L but this is not commercially viable.
Crops use a ridiculous amount of water and an adolescent cow consumes 15-20kg of dry high protein hay a day while growing.
You want to argue? Go find a flaw with the source material for all these pop sci articles. They didn't all just make it up.

Probably includes the water used for the cow's food as well as the water that gets soiled and has to be changed before it can all be drank

I'm surprised you haven't tried any. It's like cheap chewable candy made of beeswax that squirts honey. Beeswax is technically edible, but it's not great so you just spit it out when the honey gets depleted.

You don't take honey from the brood chamber and the queen excluder prevents larva from being placed in the super. If you're getting larva in your super comb then you have hive beetles or you're too moronic to isolate the queen.

I tried it when I was younger, the chewing part is pretty nice. The crunch of the honeycomb with the soft and sweet of the honey is a really good texture but then you kinda have to deal with the wax itself as it turns into a chewing gum situation.

        Anonymous

Its more about the texture, but you can buy honeycomb either from a bee keeper or if you have a hipster grocery store they might have some.
Reminds me of wax lips, but honey flavored.
If you can get local honetcomb it can help fight seasonal allergies.
