This scumhole is innawoods behind my house.

This scumhole is innawoods behind my house. It may extend another 10' beyond the edges of the pic but that's about the size of it.

What should I do with it? Put in it?

How does it fill? Is it spring fed? Is it urban and sees lots of trash? Is it highly alkaline?
If it is not filled with garbage and is not alkaline, could be a good candidate for stocking.
If the scum is algal, put a SINGLE or two VERIFIED same sex grass carp in it. It's hard to tell from photo but it looks like green algae? Grass carp will eat it and provide nutrients for smaller critters like bugs and crawfish, which can provide food for shad, bluegill, and bass. Could also put some suckers and a catfish or two in there.

No trash, it's seriously innawoods. And I'm not sure of the alkalinity. Yeah there's a place like 30 minutes away that sells grass carp. Right now I'm thinking of at least just throwing some mosquitofish in there to cut down on larva

Also a good idea. If there is any milfoil or other grass, it will probably oxygenate the pond and even moreso if there is more sunlight penetrating the surface.
God I didn't even think about mosquitos.... That has to be the source of them in a 5 mile radius lol

Mosquitofish would completely disrupt amphibian reproduction in that pond. Newt larvae could be there. Removing mosquitoes in a remote locality in the woods isn't worth the level of habitat destruction that those fish would create. besides, are you even sure there are mosquito larvae in there?

You have a lot of options, don't waste it on carp or gambusia. Check out the North American Native Fishes Association's website. Plenty of information on non game fish and people who sell native fishes.

I mean I wasn't going to put *just* mosquitofish in it. That's just a start for pest control

            Anonymous

Mosquitofish is the pest. It's in the top 100 of most invasive animals on Earth, and it's a terrible way to control mosquito larvae. The fish can't keep up with the pace of mosquito breeding, but they can easily eradicate amphibians, odonates and crustaceans.

              For reference https://www.mosquitosquad.com/greater-dc/about-us/blog/mosquitoes-facts-more/the-myth-of-the-mosquitofish/#:~:text=Standing%20water%20is%20prime%20territory,or%20minuscule%20amounts%20of%20water.
There are many documents proving this with more scientific evidence but they're in pdf format so I can't link them. Anyway please save that pond from the scourge of mosquutofish, I assure you that under the surface there's a lot more going on than the eye can tell
